Over in the streets of Devils Moon there are puddles of rainwater that reflect the neon signs and even the video on the floating blimplike signs overhead. This is the only place I have seen so far inworld that has this feature. How did the builder achieve this effect and are there other places you have found that have this feature? The water does not reflect your avatar but the effect is still pretty amazing. Anyone ever seen a mirror in world?

I've seen a mirror in a hair salon made by Shukran Fahid.

The build in Devils moon relies on an illusion. The entire build is made twice. Once upright that you walk around in and once upside down that is the "mirror" world. The puddles are just transparent windows to see the build below you.

As for the dressing table, those also are a trick. They take control of your camera and put it where you think it should be. But your AV actually sits where the "Mirror" should be, again an illusion.

you know I actually discovered the Devils Moon trick last night ....thanks to the ALT view. I will have to check out those mirrors. Do you recall the name of the salon?

Blaze Columbia uses this technique for his whole Blaze store in Triumph. To note is that only the prims are mirrored. And it works quite well for the flexiprims of the flags as well. The builder was Cadroe Murphy.
I made a few snapshots at snapzilla:

It's an interesting build to explore though the overall architecture isn't much interesting and the textures look sometimes a bit synthetic.

Leff.

Another place where the mirror build trick was utilized nicely would be Naughty Designs store in Zuni... swing camera under the floor with alt+ctrl and you can see how to main room is duplicated there to cool effect. :s

i love the reflection illusion (unfortunately it's very Prim Heavy ) if you have the proper images taken and uploaded ahead of time as well, you can sometimes achieve the illusion of an avatar reflected in a mirror as shown in the following example, but usually photographic in most cases and not live.

I think that this is a really amazing effect. I had not realized that Devil's Moon is built twice -- that's a LOT of prims and a LOT of work to rotate absolutely everything in a city!! Panning the camera down to see it was overwhelming to me... one of the few things in SL that rendered me thunderstruck.

I believe the Starfleet Headquarters in the Galaxy sim has this effect as well outside. For a while, it was a "marble" surface in the plaza outside which reflected the building as you approached. It is a very nice effect, if you can spare the prims.
