Help, I'm tearing my hair out trying to link a house I have just finished building! I did manage to link it once so know it is possible, but made the mistake of 'unlinking' one piece to made an adjustment, and now repeated attempts to relink the house have all failed. I will get so far and then, for some unknown reason, they all unlink again.... and no, I am not clicking Unlink by mistake! Is there something else basic I could be doing wrong? Also, is there an easier way of selecting all the individual prims other than holding the shift key and clicking?

been there done that, is it one prim that wont link? It may be a soft prim (bug). Try shift draging the prim and leaving its replacemant in place and getting rid of the original. Or link as much as you can, do a bulk select on the rest and then take it into your inventory. When you rez it, linking should be possible.

if the taking and rerezzing thing works, then I thank you 1000x over. because that's one of the most annoying bugs in sl.

Selecting multiple prims can be done by dragging a selection box around them, like with icons on your desktop. :)

Yep, and after their all selected you can take them and they'll show up as one thing in your inventory, and rez in exactly the same relative positions to each other later. It sounds like it could work. need to test it when I have another object that is being evil.

Soo now i have a question.. i created a house (well okay it's a bunch of prims, but who care) Now i want to link them, so I select them all and drag in inventory. now i get them out and they are all ungrouped, by sortta speak. Is there a way i can throw these in a group (yeah sorry i am still kinda a newling in the building thing) since i don't feel like dragging them all one by one arround. So how do i link them all together and that they won't come lose again.

EDIT I am sorry, i didn't read the other threat... I found the awnser already.. my bad

Thanks for the replies, they are greatly appreciated..... I'm not sure if the problem is being caused by one particular prim, as I can't be sure I am always linking in the same order. It seems to happen after I have closed the edit window to move around and then try to reselect what has been linked so far - to find it is only 1 prim, and all the other prims are unlinked. Is this because I closed the Edit window before linking was complete?

I'm very interested in selecting everything in a box, but not sure exactly how that is done? Is there a selection tool somewhere that I haven't discovered yet? It would certainly make things easier by the sound of it..... :o

Just click and drag on an empty space, the selection rectangle will appear automatically. I find moving my camera into an overhead view is easist in most cases. :)

To select everything in one *move*, hold the mouse button down while you have the edit window open and drag it around the whole bunch of prims. A box will apear enclosing them meaning they have all been selected.

To reply to your original quiestion, i had this problem. One day they wouldn't link no matter what i done. After 40 mins of trying to link them all i logged out. The next day they all linked together on my first attemp. SL is strange like that. I personally put it down to packet loss.

Thanks to everyone, I've finally succeeded in linking all 84 parts of my house - and it was so easy! I wish I'd known about this box method before, I could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration. I've been in SL nearly 2 years now, and still learning new things lol..... :D
