I'd like to know how to protect my sculpty map from being visible to people who want to modify the objects I sell. How can I accomplish this in Photoshop? I hear you need to hide a certain alpha, or do something with channels do hide the scultpy.
Please help me since my main source of income will be sculpty items. ![]() |

All you need to do is make it completely transparent by turning the alpha channel black. If you're using photoshop, just open your texture and then go down to the channels menu and create a new channel that is black and save it as a .tga. Very simple.

Going to have to try that. You can still get the sculpty UUID if its full perms. _____________________

As far as I know, it works as long as they aren't using a texture stealing program...meaning they can't just nab the texture by screenshot the way they can if you don't try anything. But if they are using one of the notorious texture stealing programs, they can still grab the sculpt..the same way they can tons of other textures. If I'm wrong, someone please let us know.

I think this has been discussed several times already:
/109/93/193906/1.html /109/93/193906/1.html Basically, mod permissions on sculpted objects mean that it is possible for someone to grab the sculpty map using its UUID, regardless of watermarking. And the result would be superior to anything done with screen captures. I recently started building and selling (or rather trying to sell ) sculpted furniture. Before that I did a random survey of the market, and I found that a lot (most?) sculpted furniture is sold no-mod, with the exception of beds since buyers would most probably want to install their own animation kits in those. So, I guess that unless you anticipate that your clients will need to install custom scripts in your sculpties (as in the case of beds) or that they'll need to resize them (as in the case of shoes and hats), then I guess you can get away with selling them no mod. I tested getting the sculpt map UUID off a mod-permissions sculpty and just got the null key.

Daniel, since you're one of the apostles of sculpties, your word is canonical as far as I'm concerned... unless the the other apostles disagree ![]() Seriously though, and just to be 100% sure, does that mean that no-mod righs offer no extra proptection against sculpty map theft? |

I hesitate to say anything for certain. Permissions keep honest people honest, so I think I will continue to make my sculpties mod when that is a convenient feature. Doing otherwise just hurts people who have no interest in stealing things anyway.
