I noticed that there are quite a few newbies who, after selling their land for the landless plots, buy parcels from me or at least take a look at my land before they buy somewhere and settle down. Maybe this is chance to get hold of newbie, who might not read forums? I know that many people are upset about ugly newbie buildings pop up in formerly nice area. But could we actually do something to help? I would be more than happy to hand out a newbie package to new land owners. Would you like to help put together something like this? It could include: - Free to copy houses - Building blocks like floors, walls, windows etc. - Furniture - Textures for building - Notecards with tips and instructions - Notecard with a building etiquette, explaining things like flashy rotating banners or other things to win friends in neighbourhood - Names of volunteers who would be willing to coach/mentor newbie home owners Anybody who like to help with this?

I would be willing to coach/mentor on the building aspect (one of my favorite aspects of SL). Not sure how many builders will be willing to part with their textures; I, for one, consider some of my textures more valuable than anything I have in SL - they are what make my buildings unique. Of course, that is just my take on textures Showing a newbie how to make a standard Linden texture look great, in the other hand, IS something I'd be willing to share.

not only is this an awesome idea, but i would love to see it made available in the Welcome Area! then you could include information about what land prices are outlandish, list resources on finding out what's a decent price to pay, etc.. it could actually help everyone, by informing newbies about better land prices, the higher ones may be avoided and the auctions themselves could see a more reasonable price range.
but, would i personally be willing to help? in any way i can. i suggest including landmarks of places to find free/L$1 items along with the few included items.
a good idea for one of the items is to make a table or something using the least amount of prims possible and use a creative texture to make it impressive.. thereby showing them the ways of conserving prims and creative texturing all in one piece.
this is an awesome idea.. feel free to ask me about whatever i may be able to help with.

Anybody who like to help with this? GNUWaveArchitects dollar store in Davenport... I may be putting my low prim dollar homes up again after I update them... Siggy.

I think this is a great idea - although I suggest that we hand the landmarks out at the main gate and then put the different kits at the landmark sites with some way of denoting that these are newbie kits. Also, the kits should automatically place things in their inventory so that they don't show up to events wearing boxes on their heads (like I did.)
The reason that I say this is because when I first started I really enjoyed exploring and finding cool stuff. It was part of the fun of SL.
I would love to help as well with the notecards & instructions as well as including lo-prim furniture I've made and textures that I've uploaded. Please IM me inworld for this or email me from the forum.
Note:
- Free to copy houses - Something LO PRIM that they can easily work with having limited knowledge of building.
- Notecards with tips and instructions - To include Landmarks and perhaps warnings on places where they should excert caution when traveling?
- Names of volunteers who would be willing to coach/mentor newbie home owners <--- I'd really be happy to help someone do this.

Good idea, but I think the plots need to be larger. Those 512 m2 plots just aren't large enough and make everything look crowded which ruins the look of the land. People tend to build to the edge of those plots and it just looks sort of junky if you have a bunch of those together.

sure, i would give them a hand with any questions they might have and help them out.. and teach them things like...DO NOT SELL YOUR LAND FOR THE LANDLESS PLOT TO PEOPLE FOR WHAT YOU PAID FOR IT!

I think that one thing which would help immensely would be to plant a scripted mailbox on any new Land for the Landless plot, that friendly neighbors can drop objects, notecards, greetings or whatever into. Some newbie owners will ignore and delete the mailboxes immediately upon taking possession of the land, but others would love and welcome the greetings of their new neighbors. I knew full-well that I could have turned around and sold my first plot in a mature sim for easily 10-15 times what I paid for it. I'm sentimental though, and enjoy the idea of having a neighborhood. Most of my neighbors are quite nice, and I like the idea of knowing who they are. I've already seen several other Landless plots right around me be bought up, marked up, and sold again. No worries, it happens. But, some others are staying, and most of us rather like each other. I'm still a newbie too, just turned a month old yesterday, but I tried to do a nice thing for a new neighbor. I made a simple 1-prim object with a touch-script, that I modified to greet her by name and say "hi, welcome to the neighborhood, yada yada." I hope she likes it . Yes, I know, simple, but I haven't taken Scipting 102 yet.... If Linden automatically plopped down a mailbox, though, that would respond to the new landowner, and allowed others to put things in there for them (heck, even a home-baked fruit-cake, lol) I think that there would be some newbies that would eschew the profits of an immediate landsale for the feeling of neighbors and friendship. And, that's one of the things that SL is all about, isn't it? Building virtual communities?
