Can I link small prims if I link them to larger prims between them??

I read the Linkability Rules, and found them very confusing. It did not address the question of whether you can link small prims to larger prims which are between them.

A linked half of my house came unlinked when I took it into inventory then rezzed it, and although I have carefully relinked, I don't want to take it back into inventory until I think it will stick this time.

I vaguely understand the Linkability Rules, but does this mean a light bulb 20 feet from a drawer pull cannot stay linked, even though there are large pieces between them to which each is linked? (If that makes sense!)

Thank you for your help!

A prim's size doesn't make any difference. Link large to small as much as you like. The only thing is that you can't link more than 256 prims together and there's a limit to how far apart the farthest prims in the set can be. If your light bulb and door pull are too far from each other, it doesn't matter what's between them. They can't be parts of the same linkset.

The size of a prim does make a difference in linking.

For example if you create two default 0.5 cubes and place them 10m apart, they can not be linked, if however you then place a 10m cube between them all three can then be linked.

Although iI dont claim to fully understand the new rules in general they allow better link distances for larger objects than havok 1 permitted, however there are situations in which prims that would link under havok 1 will not link under havok 4, this is particualry true where small prims are involved.

I just tend to try it and see what happens.

The big difference is that rotation should no longer play a part in linking.

Aha! I hadn't tried that. Thanks for the tip. I learn something every day.

I had to read it (at least) a couple times before I could wrap my brain around it but the Linkability Rules article on the wiki explains the rules for.. uh.. for linkability. I guess that's why they gave the article that name.

It really is good, once you get it.
