Hi I am curious about exactly what you can do in Maya that will export correctly. I know that you can do revolving curves I've done a lot of that. I know that you can start with a sphere and move around isoparms, but it seems like changing around the shapes can screw it up. I had tried to make a chair, and I pulled just the back up so it was shaped right but when I exported the nurb it didn't look anything like it in second life. I'm not sure what the limits of what you can do are. Now I read that you can use polygon modeling (which would be so much better and easier, but it said only certain polygons, no holes etc. but still didn't explain a whole lot. Can you sort of split things at all (not necessarily with the split tool like what I mean is can you use a polyon and extude on different sides? Like if you wanted to make a plane or something. (Actually I want to make a heart and if someone can help me figure out how to do that in Maya and have it work in SL I'd appreciate it) And if you use polygons can you smooth it after? How do you get sharp angles? It seems like the only things that work for me are either using the revolve tool or editing a sphere and not really changing it much. Sorry, a lot of questions I know.

hey there ok idk if i can answer all those questions but heres what i know first you must have copy/paste the script it gives you correctly for it to work right i haven't heard of using the curve tool so if you can tell me about that- that would be great. anyways as you might know already you have to make a NURBS sphere where it has 16 sections and 15 spans no more but u can use less move/rotate the vertexes but not changed them to make a tight corner you might have to put more points on that line making it sharper. you say you want to make a hear well you should do first get a pic of a heart then use it as an image plane then when u make that sphere with 16 sections and 15 spans move the vertexes along that shape. as far as the polygons don;t know about that either-. am not an expert i still have alot of stuff t learn in maya am just giving you what i know hoped i have helped you =) im trol8 hax in world if anything

Ok you do things much different than I've been doing, what do you mean about the script? I use the mel script in Maya to export a sculpty map. Are you talking about a script from SL? I'm confused.
I will try that for the heard I was having no luck before.
As for using the curve tool you just make the curve you want and edit the CVs to get it how you want. I have been just revolving it, but I believe you can use the other surface tools (like loft, etc) as well. Just make sure you only export the surface, not the curve.
