Hi all -

Once upon a time, when I spent more time in-world, I noticed heavily prim-constructed AVs (furries and beyond) with eyes that blinked just as IIRC a normal AV's eyes blinked. Does anyone know how this is/was done? I've got just about enough motivation to try it for myself now...

Texture offsets and a timer. A more detailed explanation would be forthcoming in scripting tips if you need more help.

I'm not 100% sure, but based upon the stuff I (believe) know, I think this would be accomplished with animated textures on the eye prims.

Most furries don't have separate eye prims. The ones I have looked at animate the texture of the entire head.

You can make prim blinking eyes too, and it really depends on the look you want to achieve (I believe the Kennedy dragons use prims, but just crashed so can't check!)

They're done using a solid textured eyelid set to 'show' and 'hide' at intervals, or could also (?) be done using rotation on a cut prim eyelid. A main script tells a script in each lid when to show and hide - although they changed something about LSL recently that'd probably allow for a better way of doing it. Wow, how useful am I?!

But yeah, depends on the look you want. Prim blinks can get out of sync, whereas a singe texture can't.

Thanks for the help. I'll summarize:

Give up and fake it using clever code.

Which was all I needed to know I guess. And here I've been laboring under the assumptino that there was some kind of AV event (or other prim attachment point) that people had tied into ...

Nope. I own all sorts of furry avatars, and the only ones whose eye blinking has anything to do with the avatar are the ones where the actual avatar eyes are what you're seeing. Like the Jakkal's Werehouse foxes and wolves, which has a muzzle mask on the avatar head, and you see the eyes and forehead of the actual avatar head. If the eyes are on prims, they are self-reliant on scripts which have no connection to the avatar wearing them. No way to link the mouth animations, either.
