I want to increase the prim count on my island lot, without buying up all the adjacent land and creating a vaste wasteland around me - I'd rather have traffic from other nearby busy going past my door than huge tracts of baron land I've bought up to satisfy my prim needs.
Can I buy land on some remote location and use it's prim allocation for further building on my island lot?
In advance - sorry I searched the knowledgebase and forum but couldn't find the right word combo to turn up an answer, although I'm sure this must have been asked many times before, so I'm half expecting a URL reference only!

No you can't. http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=144The number of prims is counted per region for a reason: It is related to the amount of processing the simulator can do. Not using the processor of another sim does not help the processor of your sim run any faster.

Depending on your needs you may want to try a zero prim rezzer. If your not familiar it is an object that rezzes another as a temporary object. Temporary objects only last for a few minutes at most. When the rezzer detects the objects gone it rezzes another.
This does cause a slight flicker every few minutes, but only takes a single prim. I've found them useful for trees and such.

I thought that little trick was removed. Last I heard, temp prims counted the same as normal ones

if temp prims counted as regular ones, then anyone firing a weapon on your land would contribute to your prim count. They wouldn't do that as it has too much potential for mistaken abuse. (people not knowing weapons and such rez objects.)

Temp on rez prims don't count towards the land total, but they do count toward the sim total. From what i've been told, you are borrowing prims from land in the sim that has prims available. This seems to become an issue only in sims that are very full.
I think some island owners adjust how the prims are spread out in the sim, so they can borrow some from some areas and put them in others. Like have roads with low prim allotment for aesthetic reasons. I've heard of "double prim lots", and i own land with a 1.1 prim multiplier on an island (it is a 1024, but instead of 234 it has 257 prims).

Fenix, I had read that somewhere too, but have tried and verified that it does still work.
I think Deleriums right. There's too many applications currently using temp prims to change it now.
