Rotation of objects selected as a group

I was trying to show someone how to rez and adjust an object made up of unlinked parts, which had all been selected and taken into inventory as one object, when something totally unexpected happened.

I made a set of 6 cubes, unlinked, selected them and took the group into inventory. Gave a copy to the person I was showing this to, and we both rezzed them on the ground after making sure the edit window was open. We both could move the objects as one set using the edit object arrows. I could rotate them as one set using the Control key so the rotations sphere appeared, but then the other person tried to do this, each of the 6 individual cubes rotated around its own center, rather then the group rotating as a unit.

Another person tried this with the same results.

I figure I must have some kind of preference or setting selected that they do not, but cannot figure out what it is. Can anyone else shed any light on this, what I am overlooking?

Thanks, I figure I will learn something new here.

Interesting. I'd be curious myself to hear if anyone knows of any setting for this, but I'm more inclined to believe it's a bug. Try it with a few more people, and if the object behavior is consistent, file a bug report.
