Hi, I am new so please bear with me if say something insanely stupid, though I shall try hard not to. The SL land gods have given me a better Land for the Landless plot than I could have dreamed up for myself so I want to do well by it. What I would like to do is build up a 2 story Dome type structure. The plot is a bit rectangular so i'm not sure if my dome idea will work as well as I'd like. If not I will have to make it a rectangle. Either way it will be designated for games, dancing, music, chatting and a great fun time for all. I'm calling it SolarStarz SnowDome for now as it is on the side of a mountain that snows! I have taken the building tutorial etc. What I need are ideas for what can help to make this a really fun happening spot. I also need anything to help smooth the way from donations of lindens to items so if you have extra stuff you don't need that you think might be cool for this kind of place, please think of me. I'll be buying things myself too but I really am a bit linden poor since I just started last week. I have already got quite a few of the free linden items and am still going through it all. Here is a list of the things I think I'll need for my dream dome but i am open to other ideas as well. * Textures for walls and floors - I am thinking of something white with a star, snowflake or spiral type pattern of another color. * Dance Machine and some dance lights. * games - slots, lottoballs, anything fun. * Misc deco. I'm probably going to try and go with a more futuristic type look. Thanks in advance for any assistance. IM me for a teleport if you want to come see my progress or lack thereof. IM's are set to go to my email if I am not in the game. The address is Garmisch 16,152. SolarStarz

well, i just got done checking out your spot in-world.. great spot by the way! i thought of something.. do you have any sketches of your idea on your comp? as in, would there be a way for me to see what idea/s you have so far? it could help when i'm making textures.. or specific ones anyway. i may also be able to help with some furniture/decorations.. but there are others who are well established in such things that may also be willing to help. anyone else want to help with this? methinks it has a lot of potantial to be a great place. also, SolarStarz, you may get inspiration from checking out any Ouranos Group builds that you may be able to see. ps - i predict SolarStarz will quickly become an enriching member of SL, welcome among all the 'oldbies' as another visionary that strengthens SL as a whole.

SolarStarz...
You can find free texture packs at the Bazaar in Stillman. Also, you should check out the GNU Architect Dollar store for additional textures and furnishings. The other day I visited Yadni's freebie area (forget the actual name) and there was alot of free stuff there.
As I can't remember the exact locations, do a search and you'll find them.
Good luck!

Not seen it yet... but I'd be willing to help out as I can.
Depending on your plans for it, I can do some work free, or on long term credit. I.e. if it's for personal use it's free, if it's for a money-making scheme, I'll want to be paid, eventually...
My customers think I'm a pretty good builder of furniture, and though I'm a bit biased, I tend to agree, lol.
Still, I'll call round and see what I can dream up...

I believe that Juro was referring to Yadni's Junkyard (a find on Yadni should suffice). I have personally found the Junkyard to be VERY helpful, particularly the 88 Free Scripts that should include lots of very basic scripts to help you learn the fundamentals of LSL (I'll let you know when I figure out the fundamentals.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone for all the support. I hope to have some rough dome type structures up by Friday. Until then I'll be sorting through my inventory, visiting all your recommended spots and putting some thin walls up to mark my boundaries so i dont overlap the property lines with the domes later. Once I have some some structures up that should help for ideas for textures. I will get them up faster if i can Cybin but i'm still learning and slow at finding all the right buttons. hehe. Siobhan, this is going to be for personal AND profit both. I am doing it mostly for fun and the creative expression but I do plan to have events in the future that may make some $ as well. If people come and have fun and I make some $ in the process, that's great. If I don't make loads of lindens that's also ok as long as everyone is having fun. Whatever happens I want to keep the Fun ratio higher than any of the other ratios. I am really excited to have found this game because I really enjoy both art and socializing. Here I'll get to do plenty of both! Yippee. So... Siobhan... if you want to make stuff for free that's great, if not I'll buy it from you later when I have more lindens if it goes with my futuristic theme and if i have any prims left. I am going to have to build wisely if i want deco! I love to deco

An Update
08-03-2004 08:14
It seems like a good time for an update this morning since maintenance is going on right now.
My plot was too narrow for a full dome... I lost too much room and I really like having room... so at the moment my structure is rectangular. I did make a ghosted snowing sphere overhead... still deciding whether or not to put a transparent floor inside it. It's a really nice view up there.
I have still kept to a futuristic theme and had lots of help from great people in this game. I found star like textures from Lumiere Noir at the flea market. Cybin Monde just made me awesome orbiting moons... I am still playing with size etc.. but OMG they are perfect! Mentor Trimming Hedges helped me acheive perfectly seamless floors. Others have donated lindens to the cause too. And others answering so many of my newby questions patiently. Thank you all.
The place is still under construction but is usable now. Someone gave me a teleporter script but i am not sure how to use it just yet. hehe. I will need it to handle 3 floors... the first, the roof and eventually the overhead dome.
Also I am still working on deco and deciding what to do on the first floor which is mostly empty at the moment. More ideas are welcome if you have them. Maybe i will just make the first floor a futuristic place to relax since the roof is the party zone.
The address is Garmisch 26,153 if anyone wants to stop by and see the progress.

I'll do some free textures for you. Just tell me what you need.

SolarStarz Update
08-04-2004 11:55
Thank you for the offer Goshua; however, most of the texturing is already taken care of. You are welcome to stop by and if you have other ideas please let me know. I am open to other suggestions. I have 2 main mini-dilemas though: - what to do with my walls - what to do downstairs in general - teleporters well, that's three. if i put walls the camera view will pan because of the narrowness of the plot so I'm really not wanting to do that... but how can i still make it look futuristic and nice? maybe just some edging? I just have columns on the lower floor right now. Not particularly attached to them though if anyone has better ideas. for the lower floor I have a vendor put up and will add a lotto orb, a table and some seating... besides that I'm not sure what to do. i still need help getting teleporters to work. someone gave me a script but I dont know how to use it. Thanks again everyone.
