Move your pieces closer together. Duh.

(A 10x10x10 object will only link if they are within 32m of each other. Smaller objects mean much smaller distances. Two 1x1x1 meter objects, for example, need to be something like within 7m of each other. The solution in your case is most likely to link the garage into two or more pieces, rather than one big piece.)

hehe i managed to do something earlier, not to sure but this might be why,, edited a linked object, dragged it far from what it was,,, suddenly that piece couldnt be linked to anything , nothing, till i changed the prim +0.1 size and back -0.1 size, then it suddenly became useable as link.

Think i broke it when i moved it to far from the linked object it was attached to maybe,,

Didn't the bit where it said "Pieces too far apart" give a hint?

Link Failed ...but pieces NOT too far apart
04-14-2005 07:20
Since 1.6.1, I have repeatedly had this message on things which are absolutely NOT too far apart. I do not know the reason for it, suspect a bug.

I tried to link a name plate to a door, name plate was reasonable size, touching the door, refused to link. Five minutes later, eight 10x10x0.5 prims laid flat linked, no problem.

My best experience with this yet? Making a BDSM scene which would fit into a 10X10x10 prim, linking it, failing to link a couple of prims for reasons which were not obvious, then finding all but 2 vanished on the next attempt at linking.

I switched on highlight transparency, in case it had just turned transparent, searched my lost and found and trash. Nothing. I assumed it was gone for good, took away all the pose balls I had carefully positioned, linked the last couple of prims and it all appeared as if by magic.

Unlinking and relinking in a different order allowed all the prims to be linked - but many vanished and reappeared in the course of the linking.

I have had a number of problems with linked prims refusing me permission to copy, even though I own all the prims and all the textures used on the prims, and prims spontaneously unlinking...all since 1.6.1.

It isn't on the list of bugs cured in 1.6.2 :-(.

I have had this happen too, and not that it is too far apart, the peices are right beside each other...but if I link a couple, then link the next closest, etc..etc..then I finally get it all linked together, just can't do all at once..

This has happened to me too. Shapes right next to each other won't link. The workaround, as Micheal pointed out, is to link other objects to the stubborn objects, and from there link those clusters together.

Linking problems worse

The linking problems seem to have got worse - spent an hour trying to linke a small cottage together. The sections appeared to be spontaneousy unlinking, as well as refusing to link.

Had trouble setting color or texture onto multiple linked prims. And I got the vanishing effect mentioned, too.
