3DS Max 2009 Exporter?

Granted I may have missed something, but I looked in all all the familiar places for this answer before posting here. If I did indeed miss a post about it, please redirect me, but...

Is there an exporter for 3DS Max 2009 for SL? The one that's listed on the 3DS Max page is for earlier versions and not 2009.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not sure of this "3ds Max page" or exporter you are referring to, but Prim Composer http://liferain.com/downloads/primcomposer/ pretty much covers all your 3ds Max SL needs. It exports all the things that can be exported for SL.

It works for 3ds Max 7 and up. You will have to replace a file for 7 & 8 compatibility if you want to use the preset sculpted mesh options, but the scripts work fine for all of them past 7.

Oh yea, and it's free.

I'm curious about this too. Most people find Prim Composer through the Sculpted Prim: 3d Software Guide.

If there is another place that has inaccurate or out-of-date information, then I'd like to know about it so that I can fix it.

The Software Guide page is the one to which I was referring. Sorry for the confusion! I DLed Prim Composer, but the instructions don't exactly sync with the folders for 3DS 2009. When I tried to sign up at that website to ask liferain about it directly, I couldn't. However, now I see there is an update since I tried to DL, so I'll give it a go once I'm home tonight. Thank you both for your advice. :)

You can post in the liferain forums without signing up (Many people do). When you sign up, you get additional features such as the ability to subscribe to a thread, but signing up isn't required to post. It would be helpful to know what happened when you tried to sign up and it didn't work. You can PM or IM me about it.

It would also be helpful to know what didn't "sync" about the folders so that I can update the instructions. Many people are successfully using Prim Composer with both 3DS Max 2009 and Max 2010.

Best of Luck!

I had to find the different folder names. For me, it was C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\stdplugs\stdscripts. Whew! I thought I was going crazy. Thanks for all your help. Now to get working on this thing!

MAXScript Auto-load Script Error
10-10-2009 07:05
I restarted 3ds and got a script error message:

MAXScript Auto-load Script Error - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\stdplugs\stdscripts\primcomposer\Menus.ms Exception

-- Type error: Interface method call requires MixinInterface, got: undefined

What does that mean?!

I haven't had the privilege of encountering that error myself. Did you do a clean install of the new version of the scripts you downloaded? If you did not, delete the Prim Composer folder in stdscripts and do a clean install and try again. Actually, I would do a clean install regardless, just to make sure.

There is a video tutorial on the Prim Composer site http://files.liferain.com/video/primcomposer/how-to-install-prim-composer-in-3ds-max.mp4 that I would recommend you watch.

In fact, I would highly recommend you watch all the tutorials if you are new to Prim Composer. Well, may be not the open sim setup tuts unless you are going to run an OS sandbox on your computer. Shack put a lot of effort into them and they are pretty well done.

There's more Prim Composer and general 3ds Max help at http://liferain.com/downloads/forums/primcomposer-for-3ds-max/ It's a small but helpful community. Like Shack said, you don't have to join. I haven't, but that's just because the forum there doesn't let me join for some reason. I don't blame them, I wouldn't let me join either, so I post there occasionally as a guest under "pyg."

As far as I know, this error only happens the first time that you restart 3ds Max after installing Prim Composer. If you restart 3ds Max a second time, it doesn't happen and it never happens again after that.

It only occurs in later versions of 3ds Max such as Max 2009 and Max 2010. I haven't bothered to fix it because it goes away by itself.
