Hi, really sorry if this is a silly question, I'm new to building and could well be doing something wrong.
I'm living on someones island, to which I have full mod rights. I've been learning to build there and have made some stuff I'm really proud of. BUT when I save my stuff to inventory and get it out again, I have trouble changing the size or unlinking and am no longer shown as the owner or creator.
This only seems to happen with linked items.
Any help gratefully received, I spent the whole day Saturday making a complex prim skirt which I no longer seem to own!
Thanks

who does it say is the owner then ?
sounds like you passed it to someone else and they passed it back ? need to set full perms if you do that ( mod copy trans )

No, I havent passed it to anyone, just put it away and took it out again.
The whole general tab page is blanked out, no owner or creator listed.

The whole general tab page is blanked out, no owner or creator listed. After opening the edit box, you're saying that the edit box is blanked out? If so, while the edit box is opened like that, right click again on the object that you're trying to edit.

It could be a sim problem, and/or lag. Objects are stored on the sim they were created/uploaded in (pretty much) plus some unknown voodoo. I lost two houses completely and permanently when I took them to inventory, that I'd built in my sim. Your best option might be to work in a mainland/known reliable sandbox sim for now. Some islands seem to be taking the brunt of the current problems and that's causing some real problems with building and object/asset persistence. I also lost two texture uploads in the same sim (they kept the L$20 though ) If owner/creator data isn't coming through, that sounds like some problem relating to sim/network performance. Hopefully the objects themselves are not corrupt, but who knows. My advice is to "take copy" anything you build, and not delete or take any originals until you have proven your copies rez fine and in working order. Preferably in another sim.

Thanks Ace, the really odd thing is that the Sim owner isnt having the same problems.
I'll do as you suggest and try working elsewhere and see if I get the same problem.

I've had the same thing happen on both private and mainland. Cache didn't make a difference. Mostly I'll get that I can't edit or link/unlink because I'm not the owner... but when I'm looking in the edit tab I'm still the owner.
Once in a while looking at other people's objects the edit screen will draw blanks for owner and creator. (Which sucks when you like something and wanted to know who made it. :/) I'm not sure if it's an issue with the objects, or with the sim.
Are we leaping into forcing "unknown creator" territory because of this bug?

Hi all, yes I am a clear cache junkie, do it all the time. Doesnt make any difference.
This is a really frustrating problem, and is such a waste of precious time!

you are not trying to edit the objects while they are attached to your avatar, are you?
also, prims created by other people you link to objects you create still retain their original creator when unliked
and jsut to be clear, you are taking to your inventory objects you created from scratch or objects owend by others you modified and then put on your inventory?
ps: remeber to check the "edit linked parts" checkbox isn't checked when you try to delete the prims (a few other functions also don't work with that checbox ticked)

Hi Tigrospotty, no its stuff I made from scratch with no parts made by anyone else. I have the same problem regardless of whether the item is on my avi or off it (I think, need to check this once the grid is back up).
