Fitting?

I see a good number of (for eg) jewellery designers who offer to help you 'fit' an attachment. I've never needed this myself so I'm curious as to how that would work. The only solution I can see is to pass the designer your body shape and they then fit the item to it and return it, but then you'd get issues with those folk who buy no trans shapes.

I'm interested because I'm working on an attachment I'd ideally like to keep no-mod, but if I can adjust it to better fit an individual then I would. But since you can't edit someone else's attachments, how do people provide 'fitting' services? Do they just stand next to the customer and say "Right a bit, right a bit, stop!"?

Actually, all they would need to do is have a posing stand to have the customer stand on and put the necklace/item over top of them in the air and adjust it to the right size.

I don't know if they mean they would actually sit it on you, if so I can only think that would be done as you stated, with the avatar's body shape.

As a BBW in SL, finding jewlery that CAN be actually fit to my Avi is very important.

It's not simply a matter of hopping on a stand and locating the piece correctly. I wish it were!

A number of pieces cannot be enlarged and are therefore unwearable. Naturally, earrings and finger rings are almost always OK. Anklets and bracelets sometimes, Necklaces infrequently. I love my Tiffany set from Elexor Matador. When I was very, very new in SL, he came to my IM and adjusted the sizing of things to fit me. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Thanks, Elexor!

I am not a designer, and I know that large women are a small minority in SL, so while I don't expect all jewlery to fit me, I think it's important for jewlwey designers to remember that one size does not fit all...

Well, that's why I'm asking :) I'm going for 'one size fits most' and trying to find a way to cater for those it doesn't! Unfotunatly due to the nature of the attachment I don't think a posing stand would work - perhaps though, I'll have a think about it. If I can work it, it would be a good alternative to sharing body shapes if the customer has a no-trans shape.

Jennifer, this is what I was trying to work out - *how* did Elexor fit the jewellery, do you remember?

Cheers all.

"Jennifer, this is what I was trying to work out - *how* did Elexor fit the jewellery, do you remember?"

I wishi I did! The best thing to do is to ask him, of course.

I was so very new here, to me it was if one of the gods had TP'd to earth and was using lightning from their hand to adjust the jewlery! I have no idea what he actually did!

Someone else who may be able to help is Dexter Bachman. He has fit a couple of his beautiful pieces to my Avi. He knows first hand the problems and if there are any solutions. Tell him Jennifer sent you and that my tomato plants are finally finished! ;)

ROFL!

Thank you Erin! I really needed a good laugh today.

I can only speak for myself, but I've had customers ask if I'd custom fit them...and of course I do. I couldn't imagine ignoring any group interested in my products because their av was larger/smaller/taller/etc.

Anyways, I'm talking hair, flexi/prim clothes, shoes...etc. I have them stand on a posing stand, rez the item and just enlarge it, or shorten it, or do whatever I need to do to make it fit to their needs, then give/sell them the item.

It isn't a major issue, and usually doesn't take long.

Best,

To simplify the answers above, the creator positions a copy of the item that they own over you while you are on that pose stand, and they they transfer ownership of the item to you. For a no-copy/transfer OK item, that usually means you give it to them, they adjust it over you, then they give it back.

I have helped a friend to adjust a no-transfer attachment that they owned, and yes, it's technically possible to give them directions as to what to do. But it's a very frustrating process. Much easier to have the maker adjust it, as they have full permissions on their own creations. Just having edit permissions on the other person's stuff is usually not enough.

I suppose if they rez the attachment on the ground, and if you have edit permissions on their stuff, you might be able to position and re-size it for them, then have them re-attach the item. But I have not had much luck with that approach, as I recall.

Well, I can basically fit any of my items to any body shape. No, I don't need your shape, just a bit of your time. (Shapes help, but it's not necessary)

Feel free to contact me in game, and I can help you out. (Course, if its with someone else's items...well, I can't obviously adjust those.) I offer free fittings for anyone who purchases one of my items. :)

Hit me up, and I can help.
