I'm kinda new at this and was wondering if there is some trick to making things like statues and plants. I learned how to do transperancies so can upload a texture in the shape of what I want, but when i make two pieces and put them together in an X fashion, why don't mine look as good as the ones I see in stores? I mean, is there a trick to it?

I walk around my object and it doesnt look perfect from all sides like some that I see. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

A lot of plants are actually made from 3 textured prim, not just two. That will help a little bit. But I really don't think any plants made this way ever look perfect from every angle, and especially not as you walk around them. They look better when you are standing still and the textures are all popping and switching. So ... don't worry about what you are doing ... it will be tough to make them look perfect.

Hi Kim, you need to put an completely clear alpha texture on the whole prim then add the plant texture just to the flat sides. That way the edges disappear. After that, you can manipulate the texure by number till it looks perfect.
Hope these tips help. Good luck!

Thanks for your responses. :) With plants I will try using 3 prims. I do already put an invis texture on the edges, but I'm not sure what you mean by manipulate by number. Can you tell me what you mean? Don't you just use the same cut out pic on all?

I meant when your in edit mode on the texture interface, on the left side where all the numbers are, you can punch in numbers by hand if you have to in order to get a nice filled out picture of your plant. Its not always necessary though if you have nice clean alpha edges.
Good luck!

This question is near and dear to my heart because I struggled w/ this same thing, and eventually learned the trick to this.

After U texture the two sides of your prim w/ your plant or tree alpha texture choose ONE of those two sides(by clicking 'select texture') and do this.....under the TEXTURE tab go to 'repeats per face' and go to 'horizontal' and check the 'flip' box. This FLIPS the texture on the other side and makes it look better like those others U have seen in-world.

If I didn't explain this clearly feel free to IM me if I'm in-world and I'll show U :D

Edited to add: I really haven't done much w/ statues per se, just plants and such but should work for them the same.
