So...
OK. Like everyone here, I'm spending more than a little bit of time building and scripting and creating something here in SL. Good clean fun! And I want to do my part to keep the place interesting, beautiful, &c &c &c.
My question is this: What do YOU do to help protect your work? I dont mean against theft or copying. I mean, against, horror of horrors: accidental deletion.
I'm up there on my platform placing prims just so, and, first, I could slip and delete it all. (OK, I keep some RL paper notes, and some copies in Inventory, but you know what I mean.)
But what about server glitches? Has that ever happened?
Is there any possible way to get "copies" of the prims in some format outside of the sims?
Ah, the perils of virtual assets! Any thoughts on the subject appreciated...
Build on.

There are a few things you can try. I do a lot of Take Copy-ing while I've got something in progress. Also, I'll shift-drag a copy of something to which I'm about to make an experimental edit -- when there's a high likelihood I'll have to vaporize the hideous result and back up a step right away. I copy-n-paste snippets of scripts to Notepad. I keep backups of various things in a box on my parcel, in case I accidentally delete a folder, then accidentally delete my trash. I send copies of important stuff to my alt account. Also . . . it's really surprising how many people forget that something accidentally deleted can be retrieved from the trash!

Wow! Those are all great suggestions (and also in a direction that I hadn't even been thinking). Thank you! The idea of using a box for safety against accidental inventory deletions is very good. I wonder if there's any advantage in keeping a box-o-stuff in more than one Sim? (I'm guessing not, that this much-bespoken "asset server" is where our work really resides. ) Thanks so much. (And I note that the question of off-game storage is being asked in various ways in a number of other threads...)
