Adding pieces to an attachment

I can not link new prims to an attachment, but I can't detach it or it will go into my inventory. So, how do I add pieces to an attachment? Is there a way to precisely place the object where it would attach without actually attaching it?

Thanks!

You can either drag it from your inventory to the ground (rez it) then edit it, or if you are wearing it right click> drop then edit it.

If you are wearing the attachment right click on it in your inventory and choose copy, then paste it back into your inventory. You'll have two copies (one worn, one not). Rez the one you are not wearing to edit it.

I can't really edit the object while it isn't attached. Fit is important. I'm working on hair.

For hair you'll still need to edit it while it is unattached. You'll have to use a posing stand and position the hair as if you were wearing it after rezzing it or dropping it.

It takes a bit to adjust it using the edit menu, but you cannot delete/add prims to something while it is worn.

Thanks, Ari. Perhaps if I just make note of the location of the piece when it is in place on my head while on the stand the positioning every time I edit it won't be so bad.

Thanks,

Well, what I believe they're explaining is that you should build the hair while it's not on your head.

Go ahead and still use a posing stand, etc...but instead of attaching the hair, just rez the hair and position it on your AV as if it were attached. It's the same difference as far as positioning it as the edit tools do not change, but you will be able to link/unlink or do whatever you want to it then.

Yes, Tiar, that's what I meant. I will position it while not attached, and make note of the position so that next time it's easier to do. Works as long as my posing stand isn't moved :-)
