Colored shapes appear while building now?

This is new thing since the update; horrid shapes of different colors (depending on the building action) rise up from an object as I'm trying to place it or change it, making it difficult or impossible to see what I'm doing.
Is it a "new feature", a glitch on my land, or something I can turn off? Building is my reason to be in sl, and this problem is making it very difficult to enjoy!!!

In the Debug menu make certain Show Updates in unchecked.
