Scuplt-map "hide" hack backfires?

wasn't sure whether to mention this in building, or textures....

anyone notice this in the 1.18.3(5) release notes?

Known issues:
  1. Sculpted prims with alpha in the sculpted texture are invisible
so does that mean that viewer treats sculpt maps with alpha as being invisible? because I really liked the idea of being able to hide the mapping from being copied (via print-screen etc).... I almost had this hope it'd make for a comeback of certain "traditionally" no-mod items as +mod (a well placed sculpt or two in shoes, and poof, no more copy-bot issues)

hope this is on the fast track to be fixed and not a "repair" like some very useful features that have been done away with in the past

The alpha channel is ignored when the sculpted prim is rendered, so I think they're referring to the sculpt map in the editor pane being invisible. This however is a *good* thing since we're not all eager to donate our sculpt maps we've worked so hard on, and they shouldn't change it.

I think they should remove it and add a nice little check box option instead, this removes the need to use alpha channels, which don't really protect the map anyway from the truely determined. As well this leaves the alpha channel open for further usage later should LL implement something else there.

::agrees:: that makes more sense {and I didn't SEE any missing sculpt... but then I wouldn't would I? =X }

but listing it as a "known issue" scares me..... I'd hate to see sculpts go the way of the llVolumeDetect "hack" for making avatars phantom, or the recent "fix" to sitting avatars as linked "prims", or even the proposed "fix" that would kill WarpPos....
