I've built my own store but it took me forever to align all prims correctly! If for instance ya make a floor prim 10x10 meters and snap it to the grid, when ya make a column and try to snap it to the edge of the floor prim (using the grid) it does NOT align precisely! There is gotta be some tricks to make the whole process faster(?) Or is it the only way to put in manually x and y values? I bought prim docker but I hate putting scripts in prims all the times. What ya all experienced builders do to align fast and correctly? I set the grid to 0.25 and tried different setting as well. Thanks so much in advance

(DISCLAIMER) I do not work for/with anyone related to the product/company stated below, nor am I benefiting from their products/services.
I use a system developed by skid tweak, it is similar to Prim docker but you dont have to copy and paste scripts into anything and it works very well for alignment purposes as well as gaps, rotations etc... it's on the slexchange.com give it a shot, if you would like a demo IM me in game I would be glad to show you how it works.

what problem snapping are you having? does it no snap at all, does it snap to something other than a round number, or does it snap then go out of alignment?
1) maybe your cursor isn't in the grid area, but in between where you can move freehand 2) maybe you don't have "world" mode used for alignment (in the edit window) 3) if this happens it might be a bug or lag. try again or use a sandbox to see if this makes a difference

I'm with the mouse in the "snap zone" and it does snap, BUT not precisely. It looks pretty aligned and when I zoom in with the camera I can see it ain't perfect. I used world and local as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Kepster is it Skids prims ya talking about? I went to the dang place to buy it but I couldn't even find the video to watch...So I left. I'm not even sure now if I wanna spend 1400L$ on that. My main occupation is cloting designer but occasionally I love to build too  TY

Its fairly easy to use and they offer classes on using the product, support is top notch in other words, I feel for you I have an OCD with the getting things perfect so I can understand. Using the grid is a little difficult for the exact reason you just stated it never comes out perfect unless you are moving very very slow or zooming in to nudge it into place .001 by .001. To make myself feel better I gave in and shelled out the $1400L it offers me the peace of mind and saves a whole lot of time. You could also use modular construction, if you don't understand that term IM me in world and I'll be glad to show you

I use a 0.125 metre grid. I use snap to grid for just about everything, occasionally typing in by hand when I spot some spurious 0.006 value etc.
This is for building houses, not fiddly little things. I generally stick to measurements down to 0.25 meter precisions, which align on a 0.125 grid. When I need to line up something a little more awkward (such as a 0.125m thick sliding door against a wall) I temporarily thicken the door to 0.25 to get it on the "right grid" then shrink it back on one side when in place- the X or Y then looks kooky in the edit box, but otherwise than that, all my prims, when the root is set to integer coordinates, tend to have coordinates ending 0.125/0.25/0.375/0.5 etc etc. It's very good for super fast building. Some manual tweaks get done when I do deliberate overlaps to shrink or slide prims into each other more to avoid flickering.
Local ruler mode is great for shift copying all kind of stuff- slides in 0.5 size increments at a time- super handy for extending a sloped roof etc.
I don't know about scripted "snap" systems, I never used one.

What size is the column? Are you trying to align the edge or center of the column to the edge of the floor section?
