1-Dimentional 'Sprite' Prims?

I've seen some of these around, and I don't know how to accomplish them. Usually they are used for standing models and the like, but there is one place I've seen them that was particularly interesting. It was attached to a character, and would appear whenever she went AFK as a message-bubble that said 'I am AFK' or somesuch. I have a picture, if it's forum-proper to post such things of other people's creations without their permission.

The interesting thing about this particular 'attachment' was that it followed the camera around. When you rotated around her, the image was always facing you flat-on. I don't know how this was accomplished. Can anyone help? Is it OK to post the picture of this Avatar?

It was probably some normal attachment (possibly clear/transparent)
that had floating text (llSetText)

This probably was done using particles. Particles are pure 2-d items that "face" the viewer. If you set the parameters right, you get one particle which does not move on its own but will follow the prim which emitted it.

You can probably post the picture here. For your protection, blur out the AV name and face, but I'm pretty sure you don't need to.

Yah, I'd almost bet money what you're seeing is a particle - the fact that it rotated and was always facing you flat on is a dead give away... I've seen a few different AFK particle thought bubbles... There are many innovative interesting uses of particles, like Bedazzle's awesome flower/foliage generator. :)

I'm certain it's not set text, I'm familiar with how that works.

However, I do think it's probably particles. That fits the behavior it was performing, and explains why I never saw it as an 'invisible prim' before she went AFK. Alright, that does answer my question. Thanks!

It is a multigadget feaure, as well as some other 'away' tags I've seen around.

Anyhow, the creator of the MultiGadget is Timeless Prototype.

Perhaps you could ask him how it was acheived ^_^
