I've seen this in a few places - people's custom avatars, the Ivory Tower of Prims - but no docs on how to do it yet: prims with different colors on their faces.
For instance, a hollowed-out hemisphere that's one color on the outside and another on the inside.
Right now I'm sorta faking this in an av by nesting two prims, but it really feels awkward, and shows seams at the edge. How does one tweak the color of some faces of a prim? Scripting, perhaps? If it's scripting, examples would be appreciated, even your little prim-color-abuse scripts.
Thanks!

On the prim editing palate, you'll note there's a radio button called "select texture" - this is really "select face" - you can then use the texture tab to recolor and retexture individual faces on a prim.

Yup, like Jillian said -- this was one of the BIG stumpers for me when I came to SL. Took me awhile to figure it out but it's certainly been worth it. Select Texture, and you'll see the crosshairs on the prim you click on -- click on different faces to highlight and customize. Welcome to SL, Mechanique!

Ah, thank you! And here I was expecting I'd have to pick color triples by hand and drop a script onto each prim or something difficult like that.

From: Mechanique Thirty Ah, thank you! And here I was expecting I'd have to pick color triples by hand and drop a script onto each prim or something difficult like that. Yeah, oh it's simple, thankfully -- but if there is something you think is difficult in SL and should be made easier, feel free to post about it in the Forums so we can discuss. I get this vibe you have a real appetite for building and some wild creativity, so best of hope with that!

I can't tell what's simple any more. I've been on SL less than a week and I'm already considering hacking up scripts found here in the forums to do weird avatar stuff. I turned myself into an eighties CG demo today, and polished it using the info I just got.
