Haunted House for Halloween?

Ok, it's only early September, but I'm thinking ahead. I think it would be great fun for SL to have a big Haunted House for Halloween (if there isn't one already). I don't have the land for it, but if there are any individuals or groups that have land they'd like to contribute for the last part of October, I'd be happy to help build one. This would be the time to start planning and recruiting a team, so - does anyone else thing this sounds interesting?

it would be pretty cool if the Lindens sponsered a Halloween Festival.. but maybe to be more PC, not to mention less US-centric, it could be called Second Masquerade or something.

you know, the spirit of Halloween adopted into a new SL holiday/festival. it could be set up similar to Burning Life.. a couple islands that people apply to be part of and build a whole couple sims of Halloween fun.

a Ouija board. a usable, larger-than-life Ouija board. you can sit on the planchette!


seems like it would fit right in there.

Anyway, Almarea Lumiere has generously volunteered to donate 15K of undeveloped land to the project. We both feel this should be a group project, although I have a feeling I'm volunteering to lead it As some of you may remember, I was largely responsible for building the Pet Trap game on the Game Dev 2 island last spring, so I have a little experience with the ups and downs of a large group project, as well as having some things like fog and Bubbling Beakers of Evil left over that we can use

Therefore, I'm looking for volunteers for the Haunted House, in particular, those who have experience working with group projects and have skills such as building, scripting, texturing, audio, casting spells, etc. *and* will have time to work on it. Also ideas will be welcomed from those that can't build or script. So, anyone who wishes to join in, please post here, and once we get enough interest going, we will plan a meeting to get the ball rolling!

first, i already have the oujia board and i'm sure i could find the time to build a build for it.


second, the Haunted House theme is awesome! but my suggestion is that it's treated about the same as say.. a Haunted Carivale?




oh yeah.. third, i have group experience.. i was in on the Tartarus project, formerly the Celina Project, which was a (private) sim-wide project.

assuming this thing goes annual, it should have a reserved spot every year. i know of no other similar builds that are still in existence, or that have been around as long. not that others don't reserve their respect, because they do!

Personally I'm hoping for something of a large gothic manor with lots of "ambiance" (bats, fog, lightening, spirits, etc) - more for fun and scary surprises and less blood and gore (ugh). But hopefully all the suggestions and ideas will be tossed around when we all have a meeting. It'd be great if the Lindens wanted to get involved, and I'm also hoping the manor could be used for related events.

now, this would depend on someone having their own music stream for in-world use..

but i was thinking, music would be cool to have for it. you know, spooky mood music stuff. the kind i happen to be a natural at.

so, if someone on the team has streaming abilities, i could make music to stream from the spooky parcels.

The Lindens hosted a Halloween Festival last year. It was sort of like Burning Life with plots available to those that sign up for a lottery. Even if they do that again, a haunted house would be cool, either on or off festival site.

I could probaly be a live actor to stroll around dark hallways and jump out at people, if that fits your theme. Also, scary sound effects could be uploaded and triggered on command as a gesture, to go along with any scary music Cybin can create.

Cybin, I don't understand what you're saying here. I must be missing something, but what's un-PC about Halloween? And it's not just the US that calls it Halloween either, or goes trick or treating etc.

Either way, I'd love to get involved in a halloween festival - I've got the Pumpkin chairs already

well, some people prefer not to celebrate Halloween and celebrate with a Harvest Festival instead. also, i'm sure there are people who play SL that don't have Halloween as a local holiday.. well, maybe?

plus, if it were to grow into being a multiple dedicated sim event, such as Burning Life, having a slightly more generic title, such as.. Second Night.. it would leave birth for a greater scope of creativity.

perhaps it could include a masquerade ball on the final night?
