Adopt a newbie

Just kinda what it says. Some of our more experciened people adopt a newbie for a day or two. Show them around, introduce them to other people, give them some ideas of what is possible, and maybe help them build/script/design something. You know. Just make them feel welcome and not so alone in this big world. Any takers.

I'LL TAKE 2! Well to anybody who encounters a newb... send them to my store... I'll have a newb PACK waiting for them... with all sorts of scripts (simple and fully documented) and goodies to help them get started. I also would like a HELP NEXUS day! Anybody who is wishing to part with simple scripts or anytype of object, sounds textures.... bring them to my place or send them to me. (I have a sign at the welcome store) OSSAT Warehouse. It will give you an landmark.

Newbie Welcome Pack
01-28-2003 12:03
I think a newbie welcome pack is a terrific idea. I'm putting one together myself. A few of my nicest textures, a few fine art paintings... I'll prolly buy some small models to throw in some of them too.

Would be cool if more people would put something like this together. If we put them on our land, and then maybe set something up at Landmark Isle to let people know which locations have the Welcome Packs, it would help newbies to feel welcome in traveling around, seeing the sites, and meeting people.

If anyone wants some of the textures or fine art paintings I've uploaded to put in their welcome pack, just let me know.

Thanks -
Kerstin

I think most of us kinda do this already, but not in any sort of "official" capacity.

I'm not only willing to be a Big Sister, but I'll kick in an object and/or texture or two. If we put a couple of clickable signs up near the welcome area, newbies who wanna be adopted could click said sign.

The script inside said sign could:

* start out with a list of Bigs names / UUID's
* assign one such Big to the newb who clicked
* IM the Big with the name of their new little
* remove the Big's UUID from the first list and add it to the "assigned" list
* when the first list is empty, it would then be repopulated by the assigned list (plus whomever else has signed up to be a Big in the meantime), while the assigned list would then be empty awaiting an assignment
* script would need to let the little know that [so and so] has been assigned to be their Big, and then not let that little click again

That may be waaaay more than you're wanting to do with this project... s'just what popped into my head as soon as I read your post.

Either way, count me in =)

#!

(hey, I'd be The Big Shebang, huh? =)

I'll try to swing by today if I can work it out. It's still a whole new experience so getting places is not totally clear to me yet.. I've conquered the whole flying/click on map/click on landmark in inventory thing, but other than that, its a mystery!

Aye I did :) Fen is pretty nice too.. so far.. ;P
But I feel bad about moving so close :) So I guess I'll try to find land elsewhere.. its so hard though! The majority of the land I see is either owned by someone or owned by a Linden
I think the majority of my time tonight will be spent looking for a new home

Actually Charlie, Fen and I moved last night... not because of you :) Were actually constructing secret base on the moon to build a laser to carve Charlies name in into the landscape of SL.

Update?
01-31-2003 08:14
Is somebody organizing this effort for welcoming/adopting/giving packs to newbies? If so, I'd like to work with you on it -- please holler at me. If not, does anybody want to work together to form an 'official' group to do this?

We could have adopters and greeters and pack distributors and all kinds of stuff. Would be a lot of fun. I loooovvveee Newbies :) And I think this is really getting to be necessary with all the new people coming in recently.

Thanks -
Kerstin
