SO I finally figured out how to turn off cam restraints, which let me see the stunning water of Windlight finally lol...I hadn't been to a beach yet or anything like it. Anyway

I know it's possible to build and walk under water, but is it possible to do so under land? Maybe have a tp system that somehow gets you down underground and whatnot? Or will the physics or something not allow it?

I'm not really sure what sims are made of so I don't know lol.. but from beneath they act like a sculpty in my opinion, so it seems like it might be possible, and it could be a wonderful way of actually having privacy, and some other awesome ideas.

So.. am I insane?

you cant build underground.

only possible way there is, lower the land, and rezz a prim above the water level, with a ground texture.

Well bleh...lol

I've sent plenty of prims underground so was thinking maybe possible =P

Would be cool though. have a hidden little house or basement... that you normally can't cam into from above...

Nope. The only way to build underground is to dig an open-topped pit or trench, and then covert that opening above the build with prims.

Think of the terrain in a sim as a single sheet of rubber, with 256 points in each direction where you can streach the surface up or down. The points can't be moved side to side - only up and down. So you can make a hill or a hole, but not a tunnel. And any hole will always have sloping sides, that slope outwards towards the top to the next ring of control points.

I've built several basements, caves, and caverns. But they all have open tops, covered with prims of some sort. If you want a cave that exits in the side of a hill, the area above the 'tunnel' has to be an open-topped notch, as well. And you can always camera into the space.

I've never really thought of the terrain that way..or known quite that lol..thats cool thanks ^^

And I do know that much though, about how to do basements and such normally (Right now my House I'm working on is on about 3600 sq m of grass textured platform lol, using the below space for my girls to enter when we've got company)

Just thought maybe it's be possible to build inside the ground ^^

And I really didn't know that about terrain... I can shape it fine, but didn't actually know that much lol.. thank you again ^^

No problem.

If you want to see a big 'underground' build done as I described, look at Caribbean Escapes (150, 96, 68). Find the big waterfall that is just below that point, and there's a place on the right side of the first bend in the falls where you can enter what was originally caled Nohona caverns. I built those caves.

although I have played around with this idea....

move the build underground, create a special animation that offsets the avatar under the ground, and happily tool around in your basement with no one the wiser as to how you got there =)

in the category of fun with reflections, you could try the same trick only standing upside down under an erased (via invisiprim?) section of ground under a shallow puddle of water... let them try to figure THAT out =)
