I'm trying to apply a media texture to my object but the set button next to the url entry is all greyed out. How do I change the media texture if its all greyed out?

Do you have permission to change the media stream for the land you're on? In order to change it, you need to own the land, or be an appropriately permissioned member of a group that owns it.

ok there was a glitch it seems like once I clicked out of the window then clicked back in the window it turned grey I closed the window and reopened it and it was adjustable. I'm having a very hard time figuring out why my video is not playing. I have it on my own server and its mp4 format but it crashes my island when I put in the URL to it. I'm not sure why its not working. I also have the video on Youtube but its not playing in SL it says I need the latest Flash player (which I do) and make sure Java is enabled (which it is).

Make sure you have the latest version of quicktime as well. About the only thing I can add.

It crashes the island? You mean the sim actually goes down? Are you sure it's not just crashing your viewer?

Assuming it's the viewer, not the sim, that's having the problem, I'll echo what Deathdude said, start by making sure you've got the latest version of Quicktime. Also, what are your system specs? My guess is you're experiencing either a video driver issue, a video hardware compatibility problem, or you simply don't have enough RAM.

YouTube won't work with SL. Video on a prim is Quicktime-only. HTML on a prim does not support Flash (yet), and neither does the embedded browser. So whether or not you have the latest version of Flash actually on your computer is irrelevant. The problem is there's no Flash plugin for SL at this time.

I think YouTube does offer Quicktime equivalents of a lot of videos these days, though, and those should work. I forget the method to access them off hand, and I'm too tired to look it up right now, but if you Google "YouTube Quicktime," I'm sure you could find it. If I remember correctly, it's a simple matter of adding a few characters to the end of the URL.

I think it might be worse than Chosen makes it sound.

If you search with the forums search for youtube play you will find a number of threads describing troubles with using Youtube as a source in SL.

I've not experimented with this much myself, perhaps not at all.

I have uploaded a little video to Vimeo, I believe it was, and that works.
