Permissions problem....

I read all the info but there is still several problems I cannot solve, please advise me?

I built a thatched cottage some time ago, and now I want to set it for sale. I have checked the perms on all the textures and components, which were all either made by me or with full perms. BUT the 'sell' button was blanked out, and so I tried unlinking everything. BUT then all the separate parts, all my own, still will not let me set the individual ones to sale. So even if I relink, it will still be unsaleable.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that if i made an item with the chat bar open, it could not be modified. It might be that, as i did tend to chat to an audience when i was building, lol!

I may have to remake everything from scratch, but i cannot understand why each single prim forbids me to set it to sale. I was wearing my group tag when i made it. Please help me to resolve this! The buyers want their house ASAP! If i remake, should I add other ppls full perms before, during, or after a link, to preserve my name on the finished item?

For linking, i got 'pieces to far apart' message. Yet the house is only 2 prims long and 2 floors high, with a roof. I am baffled why i cannot link pieces max 10m together, or as a maximum of 20m apart.

Sorry if these are stupid queries, but i have only been in Sl for 6 months, and i am further baffled by the new search feature. If i set the item to 'Show in search' (prim by prim or completed???) will i find myself suddenly charged huge fees? Will it show up by name or by description? I usually add historical info to my items, but do i now have to be more wary how i name a thing????

I will be very grateful for any response, as i am panicking slightly over this.

Best wishes from Ainee Kohime

Hi Ainee, Are your objects scripted or do they contain anything? Check the contents tab when you edit one of your objects and see that it doesn't contain items that are no transfer, no copy, or something. You could also try giving your items to an alt and see what kind of permissions they see on the item.

As for linking, I find it puzzling at times. I know that smaller prims have a smaller link distance. Sometimes I cannot link prims that are very close together and sometimes I link entire huge structures. You can TAKE several linked pieces of your house into our inventory as a combined item. Not sure if you want to sell it that way. I would use rez faux (you buy inworld or in slex) or builder's buddy (free scripts in the scripting forum).

For the show in search, if you click that on your items you will not get charged for every item. But for your items to show in search you do have to have the land set to 'show in places search' which costs 30L a week. There's a video tutorial by Torley Linden that has some info on how to set things up for search... I can't recall which one it was.

Thank you so much for your good advice.

I laboriously went through every texture in my inventory, and yes, there was ONE which I had made, but not given permissions to!!!!

Then I remade the entire house, and managed to link everything - except the chimney pot!

So my customer will be given a chimney pot for the topping-out ceremony, lol! I shall also give them suitably sized doors and sculpty stairs, as I cannot seem to link those (although they are mod/copy/transfer) without the whole house getting that maker's name instead of mine.

As for the search, I had missed that there were TWO videos by Torley Linden, and I had only watched the second. So yes, now I will go around every single item I have ever made and adjust permissions, then set them all to 'show in sale', and on land too. Sigh.

Currently I have logged off and abandoned it, as one of those bizarre SL glitches has prevented me walking though the door. I had that happen once before, and a relog cured it. Fingers crossed!

So now I am going to go and rest until the socialising part of New Year arrives in Europe!

All very best wishes to you and all for the New Year!
