Linking problems

Hey guys, thanks for always providing excellent tips and trips.

I'm sort of new to building, or rather a lot of time passes between my builds, and now I'm at a loss for what to do. Building a semi-transparent prim skirt I realised that it just did not look quite right so I tossed up a nice satin underskirt for it but now I can't seem to link it all to one skirt :/ It's a mere fourteen prims, it should be piece of cake so why is it just impossible? Is it because the overskirt used to be linked?

First the easy areas:

Are you wearing the items when you try to link? Worn items won't link.

Are you trying to link a baked texture underskirt with a prim outterskirt? Prims and clothing items won't link.

If the underskirt is prim and the outterskirt is prim, is your total prim count over 255? Over 255 prims won't link.

Is SL giving you any problems rezzing prims or pulling items from inventory? Sometimes SL won't do things it should do due to lag/bugs/monkeying around.

Not wearing them, both are prim and the total number is 14. I havent really had trouble that I've noticed so I suppose I could just do it over.
