Help. I am making skirts and trying to make the texture no mod and still allow the next owner to resize the item. It is driving me crazy! I've tried making the texture on the individual pleat no mod but leave the main item modify and it still would not allow dimension changes. That makes it rather hard to keep others from modifying my colors or changing the textures for a look that isn't mine.
Help!
<excuses in advance if this has been covered but nothing came up on any searches I did> MyLadyKate

If you want people to be able to change only one aspect of an item, your best bet is to use a script. You can set the item up to receive commands from its owner to set the length or any other attribute you want. Don't ask me for the specific how-to's though on that, since I'm not a scripter. I just know that it can be done. They won't need mod permissions since they won't actually be editing the object; they'll just be using the preset scripted functionality that is part of the item.
That, of course, is assuming the item in question is made out of prims. If it's a regular clothing skirt, you won't be able to script it, since avatar parts cannot be scripted. If that's the case, then the good news is people will be able to change the length really easily via the appearance sliders, but the bad news is you won't be able to stop them from changing the color.

A little while ago I commissioned such a script for use on my furniture products. It's available here: http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=293740. What it does is allow you to offer your prim products (furniture, prim clothing, etc.) as no-modify and yet with the capability to be scaled within a predefined range. Scaling is done on the whole object and along all three axes at once. Prims cannot be scaled individually or along one axis only (this could be desirable for a prim skirt I suppose). At any rate, it's a nice little script. You can pick up the demo version that the scripter is offering (or even one of my demo products) to see it in action.

Many thanks to both of you, Chosen Few and Emily Lang. It is indeed a prim item, a skirt, and with body sizes ranging from the almost standard slim seven foot plus shape to the petite five foot tall shape with some going for more realistic hip and waist sizes than the "perfect" figure I had almost given up hope of finding a way to keep the "look" that was intended while letting the new owner resize the skirt to fit.
A script sounds like the perfect answer! We will check out the demo tonight or tomorrow. <I'm one of the unfortunate who has to work on New Years Eve> And best of the holiday season to you both, and a very happy and productive new year in SL and RL!!
