Is there any easily workaround to do this?

I want to make a wall. I made one block 10x10x.05 with a texture. Now i need to put 2 blocks to get the height i want in my wall and lets say, 8 to the width. But doing each one or getting out of my inventory (and the need to move and adjust to the exactr position) is very slow and hard.

Is there any way to to that more speed and easy?

Thanks in advance for youe answers

Can you set that up first? In other words set the wall up to how you wish and lock the prims together and then take a copy. Each time you rez them out, a ready made wall will pop out! Or am I wrong?

1. Select the prim
2. Select Create
3. Check the box to 'copy' the selected prim
4. Click on the side/edge of the prim that you wish to add the copy to

Keep repeating the above until your wall is complete... SL is down at the moment so I can't check the details of this method but thats basically it.

If this isn't clear - IM me in world and I will show you...

(If the bu**ers ever have it running again and for long enough - I'm sure the frequency of problems is increasing all the time)

You can also try to use the manual input fields for the x, y, and z coordinates which you find in the "Object" tab under the "Edit" section.

You may find the building tutorials helpful which are located at the "Ivory Tower Library":

CTRL-D is your friend. Make one section, then in edit mode, CTRL-D to make a duplicate, then line it up, then, link those 2, CTRL-D, etc.

Note sometimes you have to edit something else and come back to what you want to duplicate - it is a bug/feature.

1. Rez the first block.

2. SHIFT + drag a copy of the block along the Z axis. Position it against the top of the first one.

3. Select both blocks. SHIFT + drag a copy along the X or Y axis. Position the new blocks beside the first two.

4. Select all four blocks. SHIFT + drag a copy and position it beside the first four.

5. Select all eight blocks in the wall and Link them.

6. Apply your texture.

Done!

How?

Glad you asked. To link a set of prims,
1st, select them all, sometimes preferably in some order, keeping in mind that the main, or "root" prim of the set is whichever one was selected LAST (and if it's later unlinked from the set, then the prim before that, and so on).
2nd, hit CTRL-L, or select Link from the Tools menu. (Likewise this can be undone with Unlink, Ctrl-Shift-L.)

Too often people forget about linking order when making one big object, and end up linking the most insignificant, oddly-rotated prim last, making the whole object much too awkward to perform certain nice editing tricks on (until the whole thing is unlinked and relinked to a better root prim, and some main prim properties are transferred over to that prim).

Then again, if you're just making a big flat solid wall, link order won't matter to you much... yet.

The first option given (using create/click face to copy) is probably the easiest to explain and to begin with.

For me, I find it easier (quicker) to set my ruler mode to "local", then shift-drag the prims, moving the mouse away from the centre of the screen so that the grid rulers appear- these force the prim to move in half-width/depth/height distances, so two steps along the ruler and you have two prims joined.

Actually, if I'm building "on grid" I'll leave the ruler mode to "world" and go by distance, but I have that down to a fine art :)

I find it easier to use the copy method that was described above

you get perfect alignment, and they do not have to be adjusted

(now about the select all 8 pieces of the wall how do you link 8 pieces of the size described (or did I miss something there)

may I suggest that you go to the Ivory Tower of Primitives for a day or two and learn everything there is to building techniques there? You will be eternally gratefull to Lumiere Noir.

Select the first one. Then shift-click to select the next one. You should see them both highlighted as selected.

Or, if you are in edit mode, you can also drag a selection rectangle around many items. To avoid selecting anything else with your rectangle, have them on the ground and move your camera directly above them.
