A Very Ignorant Question

Shows how much I know...

If someone buys a chair from me which is No Modify, then I take it they're still able to place it anywhere they like - but can they resize it? Resize the thing as a whole, by dragging the white boxes, i.e. resizing proportionally?

Seems so.
You probably have a no mod object in you inventory, try with it.

No, I meant it as a general, theoretical question. Just in general, when I sell a No Mod object, can the new owner resize it at all?

If the item is "No Mod" the only thing the customer will be able to do is place the chair, move it, and rotate it. They will NOT be able to resize it by draging the "white handles" or by using the size sliders in the edit menu.

Strange I have several no mod that I can't stretch, but some like SecondView 1.23 that I can stretch.

Simil: Are the PRIMS no mod or just the script? Inventory will show no mod for any thing that has anything no mod in it. Doesn't matter if you can resize the prims, if the script is no mod, inventory shows it no mod.

The script is no mod.
I cannot edit the object but I can edit the linked parts.

No mod script makes a no mod object in inventory. No mod script makes no mod script ONLY when rezzed. The prims are modable, and therefore can be resized, retextured, etc.

Now if one part is no mod, you may have a texture on that part that's no mod causing it to go no mod, or it may just be that the creator made that one part no mod. Dunno without playing with it myself.

But permissions are restrictive to the most restrictive part of the item in inventory. Individual pieces have their own restrictions when rezzed. By pieces and parts I am including prims, scripts, textures, and animations in the definition of pieces and parts, not just the prims.

Abba, your assessment is correct except for what you said about textures. Your explanation only applies when texture files are placed into an object's contents, which is not a terribly common occurrence. Textures simply applied to surfaces are not actually transferred to the next owner themselves, so permissions are not relevant.

Sorry, I thought I answered the first time and didn't get the difference when you asked again.
I shall know permissions better after I start selling stuff.
