i had an idea for a project at one time and i thought a good first step would be to make stilts.
i constructed two simple test blocks and made them physical so i could stand on them then i tried to attach them to my feet. i was left standing on the ground with the prims in the ground no stilt walking for me.
i later saw a AV with stilts he didn't talk to me, but now i know it can be done(by someone smarter then me hehe)

I would imagine it is the same as making prim shoes. Forget the Physical setting. Make the prims, attach them to your feet, and then use an AO in one stilt that can raise your height when walking. Ask someone who makes giant robot avatars how they manage their Animation Overrides, so a pilot can be up in the chest of a 20 M tall walking mecha.

I made stilts a long time ago that used an invisible vehicle. Basically, I attached stilts to me feet. I then sat on a vehicle which was a base and two flintstones-style wheel prims. I used the freebie car script. The seat was at the appropriate level to simulate the stilts effect. I would stop the "sit" animation and start the "cartoon walk" (or something like that) animation when moving.
That was back when I didn't know anything.
Today, if I were to make stilts, I'd first try an animation that simply offsets the avatar a to a certain height above ground. Hopefully, the normal walk animations would still play if I set priorities correctly. Otherwise, I'd have to use something like the scripts found in rollerskates... along with the custom animations to offset the avatar high above ground.
