I am curious if it is more desirable for most people to have a set of double doors open together or independently from each other.
It appears that some door scripts prohibit common operation of 2 hinged sets of objects, so maybe that is a reason why so many door manufacturers chose the independant option.

NDE doors have a menu option to allow either single or double operation. Of course, it would be more useful if I could figure out how to get the double option to actually WORK...

I suppose it depends a lot on how you script them, and whether you wanted swinging or sliding doors.
I wrote my own script for sliding doors that work in pairs. Wasn't that hard to do, and it can even handle multi-section doors, like a wall of shoji screens that all retract to a stack in the corner.
Doors that rotate are another matter. If you use a script method that allows the doors to be linked to the rest of the build, it shouldn't be difficult to send a message to linked prims to get one in a pair to open when the other does. If the script requires the pair to not be linked, then a message could be whispered on a non-zero chat channel to get the second door to act when the first does, or vice versa.
Most scripted doors that are sold for re-use probably don't link the pairs because there is a certain amount of set-up required to get them to work right in the exact situation. For example, it may matter if the build is rotated or moved after setup, or if the door is re-sized.

I have NDE doors, but only for volume detection. For basic double doors, these are fantastic and I use them in my stuff.

funny how every door subject has a NDE reference.. what the hell is volume detection? is that something a Hairdresser uses?
It would be nice to make a complicated multi prim swinging double door, something that has a more complicated shape than a rectangle. The use of hinges as is the common way with multi prim doors is the only way I know how to make multi prim doors, but my script requires the double doors to be linked in order to "talk" and since you can't link 2 Linked sets and keep them independent, the quest is on.
has anybody accomplished this?
a great example would be what Ceera said about the Folding Screens that accordion into the corner, but the one I am specifically after is a Set of Double Gates, which have smaller doors in each Gate Panel. ie 4 Doors one inside the other...

My doors are multi-prim so when they are configured to be double doors, they must listen to each other on a private channel to activate the tandem door. I made a common set of scripts for swinging doors, sliding doors as well as path-cut cylinder doors to all behave like this and configured with a notecard.
The downside is a listener is always active.

I'm confused about there doors Isablan Neva linked. I can't get the auto close time to go anything less than 10 seconds. On top of that it will randomly listen to me. Help!
Also, how do I remove it so it says "*so and so* is at the door."?
Well, got the last question removed. Changed the open message, the open and close sounds, now I just need to figure out how to change the listener time and how to change the time it stays open. For example, I wanted to do 3 seconds, I tried change time 03 and change time 3 and nothing worked.
Fixed it too. yay go me!
Only thing left is to change the listen time for the door.
