Hi all. I'm trying to use sculpties to make a shoulder holster. I could do this with a textured top and then just prims for the necessary parts, but I want to be able to wear this with any top, or no top. The problem I have is that I'm at the point of needing to make the leather straps that secure the holster in place. I can't easily make the right shape without having my avatar as a reference. Is there a way to export my avatar shape from SL into blender so I can model the straps on the shape before exporting them into SL and putting them together? Many thanks in advance.

Not exactly what you want, but to my knowledge the closest you can get: You can find the avatar.blend file on domino's website. http://dominodesigns.info/downloads/blender/avatar.blendYou will need to dig a bit until you find how it is supposed to be used. If you know how to do it you can rebuild your avatar shape using the slide bars. It appears to be used very similar to the in world editor (although it looks quite different) But it is worthwhile to spend some time on it And here is some limited information about the future of avatar.blend: http://www.dominodesigns.info/node/6Someone mentioned that the emerald viewer can export an XML-file containing your avatar definitions... Maybe that helps ?

That avatar.blend file is the default mesh though Gaia. It will not reflect your inworld shape as you actually are. I believe that Emerald has an option to export your inworld mesh as a OBJ that you could import into Blender.

From: Bishop Darkwatch That avatar.blend file is the default mesh though Gaia. It will not reflect your inworld shape as you actually are. That is not quite true. The avatar.blend has options to change the shape in a very similar way how it is done in SL. So in principle you can change the mesh to any shape you want. It is just not so straight forward to get it done. It took me some time to figure it out when i was trying it out, but it works! Let me see if i can give you a short "howto". i forgot how it works exactly so i want rather try it out again before writing down something wrong edit: ups... it looks like you have deleted your message while i answered to it ?

Hi Gaia, I know that I and several others would be interested in learning how to adjust Domino's .blend file of the SL avatar to match our own. While recent viewers allow the export of an avatar shape to .obj, it's handy to know how to alter the base blend file to accomodate instant changes in a design rather than adjusting the avatar inworld and then exporting it again.

Thanks for the tips Gaia. I'll see about using a viewer to export my shape. I don't change it that much so a static .obj would work for me, though perhaps not the above poster? I had a quick look at Domino's .blend file and, in all honesty, chickened out a little and decided to do the .obj route. When I have some free time I'll have a look back at it and a quick play around but I'm more in a rush to get this project finished first. Thanks for the support.
