Moving My Creations?

Hey there...

I've invested a huge amount of time very carefully building a massive structure that is 30 meters by 60 meters and 70 meters high.

I understand how to link objects, but it seems I can only link up to 30x30x30...

I am preparing to buy a much larger piece of land and want to move my creations but cannot figure out how to do it without problems. I know that with purchased items, even entire houses, you can move them back to inventory, but how can I do the same on a personal level? I don't want to derez dozens of linked sections of my personal-built home.

So basically, is there a way for me to link the whole kit and kaboodle into a single item I can derez and then rez on my new property?

Thanks!

Look into rez-faux, but practice first!

The way it's supposed to work is you simply select all the objects at once, and then take the whole kit & caboodle into inventory at the same time. The whole thing will come into inventory as a single item. It will be designated as plural by its icon. Singular items have a box next to them; plural ones have what looks like a stack of smaller boxes. When you drag the item out of inventory and into the world, all the pieces will be there, precisely where they're supposed to be, relative to each other.

That's how it's supposed to work. However, it's not always reliable. If you're experiencing significant lag, or the slightest degree of packet loss (or sometimes even if you're not), you can end up losing pieces. Sometimes they remain behind instead of being taken; sometimes they just poof out of existence altogether. Either way, not good.

For a more reliable method, use a scripted packaging product like Rez Faux or Rez Foo. They're more time consuming to set up, but they're totally reliable, and really handy. I use Rez Foo myself. No complaints.

I've purchased a couple pre-fab houses using Rez Foo. I assumed they (Rez Foo, etc) were commercial in nature and I couldn't use them. But thanks for the info. I'll definitely investigate and check them out if I can use them.

I'd hate to lose some of my creations, that's for sure...

I ache for the day LL lets me backup my inventory locally...

I wonder what these massive stores in SL do... I shudder to imagine some of the really huge companies losing all their inventory due to an LL burp in the database.
