Spiral ramp help

I have built a spiral ramp. I would like to add a rail to it, but cannot figure out how to get the texture lined up right. I made a completely hollow cylinder, twisted to match the ramp, but when I add texture, I cannot seem to get it lined up even close to right. Am I missing something obvious?

Incidentally, all I have done to the cylinder is cut it, twist it, and hollow it (hollowed or cut to different degrees for ramp or rail).

Thanks,
Baron

I think a torus or tube is what you need instead of a cylinder. (Forgot which-- but then again my main specialty is 1-prim straight ramps with siderails).

Maybe you could try rotating the texture and see if that helps. Good luck! :)

Take a tube, hollow it, then use *advance cut* from about .3 to .7. Give it an extra full rotation so it turns into a spiral. Flip the tube over. There's your spiral staircase *with a railing*.

Wow, thanks Ardent. That was part of what I was missing. I did as you instructed and got a great spiral ramp with an inner rail. Is it possible to get an outer rail, too?

For an outer as well as inner rail, adjust the advanced cut to something like B:05 E:65. Experiment from there for results you like. Texturing inside the advanced cut is not always pretty.

Yeh, begin .3 is too large. I was giving you numbers from memory, and I think mixing up tubes and blocks.
