How to Make Really Thinned-Out Doughnut Shapes?

Hi all. I am sure that this has been covered somewhere in the forum, but I haven't been able to track it down, and so I hope that you will be patient with the new builder and help me out

I want to be able to make a thinned-out sort of doughnut shape for jewelry purposes (an armband, a bangle), so that it is a round form, like a piece of rope joined to itself in a circle. I have tried using rings and shrinking them, but the thickness of the doughnut (sorry to keep using these food metaphors) is rather large -- preferably it should be about 1 cm maximum in diameter, and I can't make it reduce to that. I tried rings, and tori too -- and all manner of cutting and torturing the poor prims, but nothing seems to give me what I want.

Surely there is an answer to this one -- I even *own* an arm band with very much the shape I want to achieve, but it is no copy/no mod and so I can't even dissect it for pointers And nothing in the Very Tiny Prims sticky (fabulous though it is) seems pertinent to this.

In geometric terms a "donut" is a torus. If I'm reading your right, what you want to do is rez a torus and make the Y Hole Size as small as possible. By the way "Hole Size" on a torus is a bit of a misnomer. It would more accurately be described a the secondary diameter.

The smallest setting is 5%, meaning the "walls", as you call them, will be 5% as wide as the primary diameter of the torus. So, if your torus is 1cm across, and the Y Hole Size is is set to .05, then the "walls" will be half a millimeter thick.

Tubes have this same setting, by the way, if you want corners instead of a round-over.

One thing you may want to consider though, is does it really matter how thick the "walls" are for something like a ring or a bracelet? If it's tight fitting, the avatar's finger or arm will obscure the inner surface anyway. You could wear a solid cylinder on your neck, for example, as a choker necklace, and it will look just as if you're wearing a hollowed one.
