Making Signs

Not sure this is the right place to ask this question. But here goes.

I would like to put up a sign on my parcel of land that has text on it. Is this possible? How can I do it?

Please help. Do I create something outside of SL then upload? What file format do I need to use?

Any help you can offer on this topic will be greatly appreciated.

You would need to make such a thing in a graphics program (Photoshop, GIMP, etc) -- I save all of my stuff as TARGA, then upload.
