Just as in RL, you have to have an opening to put a door in. Build your wall with an appropriately-sized opening, then attach the scripted hinge first to the door and then to the side of the opening. Should work like a dream.

I have a script inworld that you can just drop into a regular prim and it will create a functioning door for you, each door will only be 1 prim, has open and close sounds too. IF I ever get back inworld I will send a copy to you. It does not have any locking features but in a world where anyone can look inside your house if they try hard enough, I find no need for locking doors on any of my builds!

Hollows generally won't make good doors or windows, because you can't make a hole anywhere other than centered in the prim. You are simply going to have to use more individual prims, stacked on one another like Leggo bricks.

When I make a wall that is to have a door and a window in it, I usually make one prim that is the full width of the wall, from ceiling height to the top of the door and window. Then I make another prim that is from the floor to the bottom of the window, and from the corner of the room to the side of the door. Then more prims to fill in the other side of the door and the areas beside the window. So figure 5 prims for a wall that has one window and a door in it, plus one prim for the window frame and panes texture, and one prim for the door.

If the wall is solid except for the door, you only need three prims, plus one for the door.

For the door itself, you usually use a path cut to remove half of a cube prim, and then reshape that so the 'center' of the prim becomes the hinge edge of the visible part. Most of the free door scripts that are in the script library will automatically shape a door prim for you, if dropped in a new prim that still has the default plywood texture on it.

When you make a wall using multiple prims, you can use the offsets and repeats on each prim face to make a single texture line up across the prims.

For example, lets say you have a 512 wide by 256 tall wall texture that has a baseboard and a crown molding and an alpha-mapped window.

Use three prims to make the wall. Let's say the lower left one is 3 M tall and 3 M wide, the door opening is 1.5 M wide, and the wall to the right of the door is a 1.5 M wide by 3 M tall prim. Top that off with a 2 M tall, 6 M wide wall section, and you have a wall that will be 5 M tall and 6 M wide.

The top prim will use the full width of the wall texture, so its horizontal repeat is 1.000. Vertically, it uses 40% of the texture (2/5), so the vertical repeat is 0.400. Play with the vertical offset to get the crown molding to line up with the top of the wall.

The left wall section will use 60% (3/5) of the height and half of the width of the wall texture.

The right wall section will use 60% of the height and 25% of the width of the wall texture.

So you adjust the repeats and offsets for these pieces so the texture lines up right.

I'll often initially texture a wall with a numbered grid texture, so I can get the repeats to match up seamlessly.

Good luck in your building!
