Scriptless HUD idea that doesn't work

I'm not sure this is the right forum, but it seems to be the closest.

I maintain a folder called "0 -- Favorites" so it sorts towards the top. In it, I keep frequently used landmarks, notecards, and basic building-related tools. This makes it easier to find things in a hurry, but even with that it is still annoying as I usually have at least one inventory window open to whatever I'm working on, outfits, or whatever. So I thought it would be nice to attach a box as a HUD that I can simply open to find my frequently used items. I could also add scripts to make it even more useful, but the basic function would be available even on no script land.

But it doesn't seem to work that way. I can't seem to open the HUD. I can go into edit to get at the contents, but that is adding an extra step that makes it less attractive (especially if I'm already building something and want to drag-and-drop a texture from the HUD).

Are there any settings that will make it possible to open an attachment that I may have overlooked? Is there a better way to do something like this?

general tab on the bottom, default left click behavior, change it to 'open'.

Thank you! I thought I had tried that, but now I'm not sure. I'll give it a test when I get home. Now, how much should I sell my .5x.5x.5m plywood HUDs for? (Yes, I'm joking)

Ahhh sorry to revive this month-old post, but I had the same idea as Straif, wearing a box as HUD.

When the box is on the ground, non-empty, the defaulted Open on touch works just fine, but any box I wear attached will lose the open options. As long as it's attached on either my character or as HUD, it only gets "Drop" "Edit" and "Detatch" on the pie-menu and the open-on-touch default option doesn't work.

So I'm wondering.. is there a script that would emulate the OPEN option on click? It seems really simple but all I can find is "giveinventory" kind of info.
