Hi, Does anyone know a way that one can practice using the building tools off line? I’m still on help island and have found it rather difficult to develop basic building skills in the sandbox while other people are around, one always ends up chatting ..nice though that is. I did once try and hide my ineptitude by doing some building underwater, but that didn’t seem to work because of some clear up routine that deletes one’s objects quite quickly.
Forgive me if this subject has cropped up before. Alice

There's still no "official" way to build offline, unfortunately. The closest I can offer is my tool, which has been having issues on the import side recently. You can find that here. And yes, it'll work on a Mac. (I'm beginning to sound like a broken record... ... ....)

Hi, Jeffrey Thanks so much for that, I'll give it a try.
I was concerned that mine might be too simple a question and would get ignored by all the experts on here.

From: AliceSandra Burnham I was concerned that mine might be too simple a question and would get ignored by all the experts on here. If it's any comfort, your "too simple a question" is actually one of the sticking points that frustrate many people, both in the past and presently. The Lindens simply refuse to implement offline building. This is why someone like myself (and the Maya tool developer) had to step in and write our own. Best of luck.

But if there is offline building, that means that the assets are on the client not the server. And if they are on the client, the database can be hacked into locally and assets copied, modified or transferred regardless of the permissions they have.
It seems like the no copy, no transfer and no modify permissions are the Achilles heel for the economy in SL. It is the only way to protect IP and make the market possible. Without being able to enforce them, builds would only ever be able to be sold once.
Is this right?
