Newbie Question: How Do I Get The House Out of the Box?

I couldn't feel like a bigger idiot right now. I bought my first land today, and I've taken a house that I purchased out of my inventory and have placed it on the land. Actually, all I see is the box the house came in when I purchased it. It's the Imogen Home that Bill Sterling builds and sells. I click on the box which opens a note card, and it tells me to position it while I'm in land edit mode. No problem. Did this fine. And yet I still find no way to get the house itself out of the box.

I've also checked the basic help screen while inworld, and it merely walks you through taking the log cabin out of your inventory and setting it up. Doesn't seem to be much help with this house I've purchased.

Have tried to find something in the forums, but don't seem to have much luck here either, so I figured it was time to admit that I just don't get it, and ask for a little help.

Am I missing something so obvious that I'm gonna want to kick my own arse when I finally get it?

There are a lot of newbies out there who don't know how to get the contents out of a box and into their inventory. Nyna Slate showed me how almost two years ago when I was standing bewildered in AV Central in Natoma.

There still are. I can't figure it out to save my life, and I know its something simple that will make me feel like a dolt, but I can't get my pre-fab out of the box.

Don't worry Sue, everyone asks that same question at some point. Once you know the trick it's easy, but it's totally non-obvious.

This should really be a step on orientation island, instead of putting the beach ball on top of the table. Or at least they should have you take the beach ball out of a box first.

Evan...drag the box to the ground...right click for the pie menu and click edit... a screen will appear, click the "more" button for a longer screen... click the contents tab and you will see what the box holds ...drag THESE objects to your inventory and then to the ground (if this is clothing just right click it in inventory to wear it) ... viola!

and trust me... everyone in SL has worn a box at one time or another, I certainly did... lol

At least you still have the box... I was so confused the first time I bought a peice of clothing and it came as a box. I first wore it and became a billboard andthen I put it on the ground and clicked it.. still nothing. I did click edit but had no idea to look under hte "more" tab.

I ended up deleting that first purchase thinking I had been taken. It really should be in the tutorial at the begining of the game on howto take items out of boxes as so many makers do it that way.

I was about to quit the game, went back to the welcome area I had a "home" and was just about to hit the quit button for the last time when someone walked up to me and said "Girl, we have to get you out of those newbie clothes". If it was not for wuvme, I would not be here today

You're right Jesse... getting things out of boxes is so fundamental to SL that it SHOULD be an entry tutorial. At the very least an offered notecard! There is absolutely nothing intuitive about opening boxes. My hat's off to anyone who's figured out how to do it on their own...lol. I certainly didn't !!
