I am building a few buildings to sell in my store, and was wondering what good prim limits would be for their size...
Non furnished for all--
Castle - 40x40 (Various Stories up to 3 in various parts) Log Cabin - 20x20 (2 Story) Mansion - 30 x 20 (2 1/2 Story) Shop - 20 x 20 Office Building - 20x30 (3 Story) Corporate Skybox - 30 x 30 (3 story) Private Skybox - 20 x 20 Department Store - 30 x 40 (1 1/2 Story)
Thanks for any help.. I just want to make these look good, but not have hugely inconvenient prim counts.

I don't think anyone else can put numbers to these things for you. It depends entirely on your skill as a builder and as a texture artist as to how few prims you can manage to use for a given structure. A 40-prim building can be large and fantastic, if you use really good textures. Or it can be pathetic. It all depends on the skill of the maker.

okies, yeah I see what you mean.. let me pose a different Q then... What are the prim limits for the plot sizes? 512, 1024, etc... I'm not sure... or does it vary depending on the island/mainland?

I'm not sure... or does it vary depending on the island/mainland? It's 117 prims for every 512 square meters. So 1024 is 234 prims. 4096 is 468 prims. Etc.

As Chosen said, a simulator allocates 117 prims for each 512 M2 of land, by default. With the exception of 4 sims that I am aware of, that is the rule on all Mainland sims. Linden lab has 4 "urban" sims that are double-prim, as explained below.
A sim has a total of 15,000 prims max. Private island owners can adjust the prim allocation per M2 for parcels, alowing them to offer some parcels that are "Double prim land", meaning you get twice as many prims per M2 that you own. But the cost of this is that half the land must have no prims at all, like being open ocean. Take a look at FairChang Calypso for an example of a private sim that offers double-prim parcels. They laid out lots of un-sellable open walkways between each parcel to reserve the extra prim space.
