Pan flute shape

Okay, I'm trying to build a Pan flute. My basic shape is a tube, path cut to .75, and I've put textures on it so that from most angles it now looks like a Pan flute.

It gets ugly though when you view it from below, for of course there is no surface there to put a texture on (the front and back are alpha channeled to simulate the tapered shape of the flute).

I'm wondering isn't there any other way to create this shape so you can give it a solid appearance?

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks -- Dylan

One idea: try a path cut cylinder instead of a tube. Sometimes a different shape just works better, depending on the desired result.

Another idea: add another prim (cylinder or tube) to cover up the bad-looking part on the bottom.
