I've been thinking of leveraging the traffic at my store by planting a few vending machines on the property. Several folks have been asking for this, so why not? I can envision, oh perhaps a maximum of about 10 such vending machines. I am not sure of the best way to do this, and I would appreciate some advice. Here are my concerns: - Who should own the vending machines? Me, the property owner, or the vendors? What are the advantages and disadvantages? What is the normal convention in SL? - How are the vending machine's products kept up to date? Should vendors come by and do it themselves, or should I do it for each of the vendors? I guess this depends on the answer to the last question. - I'm interested in a simple fee split on any sales, and there seems to be plenty of scripts that do that. However, is there any advantage in buying a commercial vending machine for this simple application? What features might I need that I don't yet know about? - I don't have any groups permitted to build on my property, since I have not had the need yet. Is that going to be a requirement if I have vendors running around modifying their vending machines? - Is this just a bad idea from the start? Or is it reasonable to have "alien" vendors on my property? Thanks in advance for the help!

the convention seems to be group enabled land, the vendors are owned by their content creators, and a fee for <insert time period> usage.
depending on your level of trust, a paysplit vendor should be enabled to allow access (at least to check settings) by the non-content creator.
why group enabled land? less settings for the owner of the land to mess with, plus you can subdivide parcels, and enable custom options through the group for the land, rather than changing the basic land properties (like return time, etc)
why creator owned vendors? so you don't have to futz with content updates, price changes, or refunds/problems.
generally rent for space is prefered since there's no trust issue on the pay split, you could go as far as to use a generic solution vendor, which is enabled for specific people to add content, so that you maintain control, without having to actually update the vendor yourself... just be aware that whomever owns the vendor will have to enable debit permissions, and even with a legitimate pay-split vendor, there are ways to cheat it into not paying the split
