I am a perfectionist - to much of course (??) - if i see a small 0.001 crack between 2 objects I cry shake my head and gets crazy.. I know its me.. but i want it perfect.. Must be some sort of automatic help to join objects in SL? 3-4-8 pieces of 10*10 as floor..s - then add walls to them.. I can do that ”by hand” to 0.000 mm ... BUT it take a xxxx a lot of time... Is there any help out in Sl for doing this automatically?? Plssss..... before I go nuts in SL.. maybe its already to late but I still search for it... (lol)

if i understand correctly you just want to align identical prims, yes? If so there is a really really easy way to do it.
If you have, say a floor prim, and want to lay another next to it, right click on the existing prim and choose Create in the pie menu. When the Create menu opens, check the box Copy Selection and the Center Copy box.
Then left click on the side of the prim you want the next prim to lay against. The new prim should be lined up perfectly.

same thing actually- if you really want to get picky about perfect alignment on walls atop your floor-this time Create on top of your floor prim- then stretch the new prim upward (Z measurement) and then either the X or Y measurement to narrow it, depending on the side you want the wall on - that way making a vertical standing prim. Subsequent wall prims can be created off of that one. ta da.

What do you mean use the grid? I can't understand HOW. I see these grid thingies there, but they aren't all that accurate. And "snap to grid" doesn't seem to do anything at all!
How do you use the grid?

In my experience (and it is considerable) the grid is very tricky on a consistent basis. And i suppose i could do classes, Petgirl. You will be the first to know Yes, i did Kasteel Verloren, based on Neuschwanstein in Bavaria thank you for being one of the 11 people that are aware of its existence. Maybe if i had Flingo or something in the ballroom.... nah. take a peek at the sim next door, Petgirl- Verlorendam- a little Amsterdam sorta.

Seen that to! - very nice!!! You have more to suggest - to see ??? When i go (fly) to a place for looking at or shopping ) I also always look around in the neighbour.. to learn more to see more to experience more.. I have also seen your house built for Kim.,. Tell me pls - when the class open )) AS I am a heavy dyslecticer I have huge problem to ”read in” info (as this forum text at the screen for example) but if I stand at the side and SEE how all are made it are directly saved in my brain/body...

Test it... GREAT! Then... The stretch thing are ok.. but when I stretch the object I cant get the ”wall” - to be as wide as I want.. and now again i am talking about PERFECT.. in 0.000 mm ...close to but not perfect.. so then i must go to edit and write in the parameters.. and then when I go to how wide the wall shall be it of course gets placed in the center (middle) - when it should be in line with the edge of the floor.. right or left.. or up or down.. sight... Must be something i miss.. in my non education )) Pls.. try again to explain it to me.. Il will of course be back with next question then.. again and again...

I still get lost there when I have a chance to go... amazing work, and interesting names for things on occassion heh. You can thank Xyr for introducing me to it, I certainly do.... if I ever learn the layout well enough I'll give tours.... favorite bits were the scullery and the stables and the cottage. /hijack if you ever do classes I'd love to know... I'll happily trade scripting for lessons hehe

i also like working off of the numbers.
whenever possible, i always try to make sure the first prim i am working off of, or the parent prim, is on round numbers to make this easier... then afterwards i finalize the move into exact position and rotation.
If i have two prims that are both 4 meters wide, and the first prim is at X = 14.000 (location), then the X of the new, aligned prim would be 18.000, i.e. 2 meters to the edge of the first prim from center, and 2 meters from the edge of the second prim to center. If one was 4 meters wide, and one 2 meters wide, then the X would be 17 (2 + 1).
etc etc

The numbers are less accurate than the handles, which are currently a pain to work with at certain levels because of the jeweler's bug that showed up in 1.6.0 and has yet to be fixed.
There IS a limit to accuracy, including with the grid and handles. See attached. If you're interested in this level of perfectionism, PetGirl, then IM me inworld. It may be far beyond the retentive exactness you're looking for. If so then pls ignore.
btw, I am a terrible builder of anything larger than, say, a breadbox.
thx

I am sooo going to take you up on that!!!! And i will thank Xyr first thing for showing you around Petgirl-to be really accurate on the fly is not doable, for me anyway. I keep a calculator open and rely heavily on the numbers. Just remember that the position numbers given are from the CENTER of the prim, not the edge. So if you have a wall perfectly in place, then decide to shrink it, say on the X by .50, you will then need to reposition it by .25. I think building class this week? heh heh

LMAO In 11 months of building in this game I never noticed that stupid Copy Selection button. My god my houses are going up so fast now! TY TY TY TY TY!!! -Syn

the copy selection is by far my favorite. but after that i go to the numbers although i'll sometimes use the grid (didn't see it mentioned in this thread, so for those who don't know, the grid/scale engages when your mouse is over the lines - not in the center where there are no lines; and you can set the accuracy of your grid in the Tools Menu under "Grid Options". there's also the ability to snap to another prim's grid for alignment but i rarely use it - think it's Shift-G).

Actualy though, if i have a dark say, carpet texture on the top of the prim, and the sides and bottom of the prim are white (happens on 2nd story floors - white ceiling texture on bottom and dark carpet texture on top) you can see the white flicker in the seams at certain angles. I know for a fact (by using Versu's technique and also check the coordinates) that these prims are perfectly aligned. I wanna cry I think though, I'll try a technique i heard of , of making the sides of the prims transparent, we'll see how that goes.

yah- white or light textures in between seams will always show the best thing to do is to texture the entire object the darker of the colors and then for the light side, just drag the texture onto it (or do the old select texture and apply the light one that way) As long as you have the dark texture in between, you should be ok.

I posted an answer in your other thread, Alsoran at /8/4f/51996/1.htmlI assume you are selecting the prim, going to the texture tab, and selecting a texture. This applies the texture to all sides of the prim. Instead, find the texture in your inventory and drag it onto a single side of the prim. This will allow you to place up to 6 different textures on the outside of one prim cube. When you select the prim and go to the texture tab, it will then say "MULTIPLE" across the texture. Remember that if you apply a color, it gets applied as a base color for your textures, and colors apply to the entire prim -- not just a single side. If you want to make 2 sides black, and the rest brick with white mortar, you need to drag the brick texture onto 4 sides, and create a solid black texture to drag onto the remaining sides. Hope that helps.
