My Husband and I own an Island ~ We wish to retexture the sim and are not clear on how to do it exactly. My main question is this ~ if I lay a new texture on the land other then the default that is there already... if We don't like it.. how easy is it to revert back to the defaults? I don't want to change it and then find out it can't return to what it is now. Can someone please help with this??

Hrmm. I never tried it myself but assuming there is no "Default" button. Unless someone used a custom texture, for reverting back I am going to say the default textures you are looking for are located in the "Inventory" folder, not the "My Inventory" folder. In there is a Textures folder with several things to choose from. One should be in there for terrain/land type stuff.

Changing one of the textures or changing it back to the original ones is as easy as changing the texture on the side of a prim. Click on the texture in the estate tools dialog, select a texture in your inventory, click "select" and you are done. Just make sure the texture is either 512x512 or 128x128 (base texture).

All the default textures which are used by the Lindens for new islands are included in the library folder of your inventory.
