A tutorial on how to create two disconnected shapes from one sculpted prim–without resorting to alpha maps. Just go view it.
Here's the main link... http://www.independentdeveloper.com/
and the permalink for when that rolls off the front page: http://www.independentdeveloper.com/archive/2008/08/13/how-to-make-two-shapes-from-one-prim

Thanks for sharing your technique, Zee. Good description of the concepts involved, too. From: Detox Watanabe magic? people are doing this for months now Doesn't matter if people are already doing this. Magic is still Magic.

Detox... I haven't seen any of "these people" posting tutorials on how to do it until now. Vlad... Thanks, but that's not my blog, I just was directing people to it.

This is one method to do this; I call it the "loaf pinching" method. There's also the pinch method, quad method, and the fold-and-tuck. From: Detox Watanabe magic? people are doing this for months now More than a year.

The point isn't that he CAN do it. The point is that he's sharing HOW to do it. Thanks, Zee! I always wanted to know how that was done.

More than a year. I didnt count besides, a year consists of months why is it so special to share it? that's basic 3d knowledge. available in most general tutorials

From: Detox Watanabe why is it so special to share it? that's basic 3d knowledge. Because when you share information, other people can benefit from what you've learned. Pretty basic concept - it's called helping people. BTW - Here's a video tutorial from DanielFox Abernathy that demonstrates this multiple shape technique in Wings3D. If you've already digested the sum total of human knowledge then you can ignore this link. /8/10/210888/1.html

lol, this isn't about rocket science nor a national secret. it's really all out there, so google is your friend it's not about that he's sharing it and others are keeping it for themselves, really. don't make SL sculpties look like something magical, special and new, its plain and simple 3d stuff that is around for years. for me it seems like many sl creators think they have to reinvent the 3d world

For most people it is magic. That tutorial came about because the author get's asked regularly how to do it (apparently by people who can't Google), so now instead of explaining it over and over via e-mail, it's just a link to one place, and maybe it will eliminate one piece of e-mail that needs to be sorted. Besides, it's magic to me and I thought it would be nice to share the link. Just because it is common place to you doesn't mean it isn't common knowledge to the majority of people.
