It has come to my attention that my landlord and her husband would look thru the walls of my rental house.
At the time I didn't know that was possible as a new person.
My question is, is there anything that can be done during the building of a house, that would not allow people to engage in this behavior??

Gets even worse..

Sorry Halle, but I don't think there's anything you can do about that. That's a feature of the openness of SL :/ Camera controls enable people to pry into other's homes, even with the security on. On top of that, even if you've locked the doors etc., they can create a prim = box or whatever, sit on it and move themselves inside your house, or with camera controls sit on your chairs, sleep in your bed etc. That's just something you have to learn to live with, being in SL. I, myself, being a landlady, respect other people's privacy and do not pry into our tenants' houses. Not that I feel the urge anyway. The only time I've used camera to see into someone's house, (and wrestled with the moral dilemma of it ) was when I was building and accidentally moved stuff inside a neighbour's house (some may have ended up in other sims as well :/). I felt it still would be better for the neighbour if I got mine out, than for them to come home and find a huge closet in the middle of their living room... I feel sorry for those who have to peep into other people's lives, whether SL or RL. Do unto others etc.. If there is, however, a way to correct this, I'd be more than happy to hear from experts! Mia

Hi Halle
It gets worse. This problem also applies to conversations that you may have in your house. They will carry to about 10 M away through walls and boundaries.
If you can move your house you could move it up above the clouds a couple of 100 M. That does not stop it but does make it harder. You can also get an alarm/radar system that would make it harder still. A teleport with access control could take you to your house from the ground.
At least your property is safe and can only be moved by you provided you did not click the "Allow Anyone to Move" or "Allow Anyone to Copy" boxes.
It also makes for an open, communal experience.

If you have the debug menu on, you can turn on the camera look at beacon. Meaning, it shows a crosshair of where avatars are looking at or where they've zoomed and panned in on. When you see the crosshair coming into your property, you'll know they are watching. For conversations, just stick with IMs.

Hey Halle! Have you tried making a skybox in the air with a teleporter to it? That might give you some added privacy without having to worry about what they hear. I have some free teleporters, if you'd like one, IM me.

Also check Cuby Terra's (free, open source) teleporters Mark III and Mark IV for longer distances (beyond 300m) - they work up to 768m...well beyond regular flying range (for most of us anyways). Check Cubey Terra's profile for a teleport to his shop.

I've looked but I can't find this feature.. I've got the Debug menu item, I just can't find anything similar to a "camera beacon". Am I just overlooking it?

yall are thinking small time, buy a sim and lock it to outsiders ;P or just put your house/skybox as far away from property lines as possible

I had something like that happen to me as well, placing a vendor in a skybox type mall it all of a sudden ghosted on me (it moved and I still saw it where I thought it should be). took 30 mitnues and four people to find. It'd dropped ~10m and moved to a sim corner (I think) and after panning through the floor it was visable and just within edit range. I of course, managed to lose control of it and shot it out the opposite side of the building! Took me another 10 minutes to locate even though I knew where it should be. XD (That whole "flying over 200m" thing). Now back to your regularly scedualed thread.
