blender plus Domino Marama's sculptie scripts does that (you will need the RC-scripts though, see below). You can import a sculptie map and immediately see in every detail, how it looks like in SL. Oblongs are supported. LOD is also supported. I am unsure if LOD is correctly shown for all supported ratios with blender's inbuilt LOD support (named "Multires";). But a least all power of 2 ratios do work correctly.

You find blender here:

http://www.blender.org.

You find Domino's scipts here:

http://dominodesigns.info/second_life/blender_scripts.html

You find an enhanced version of the original scripts here:

http://www.machinimatrix.org/svn/sl/distrib/blender_scripts_rc_4.zip

And some video tutorials here:

More in the forum threads.

BTW: to answer your other question on the thread about vertex lighting: I do use blender for sculpting and texturing. Although it is not easy to go at the beginning, you can do pretty much everything once you mastered this program.

have fun.

Thanks for your response Gaia. I was actually looking for a program outside of Blender that would show what i needed. Blender still gives me panic attacks.

What about uploading to the test grid ?

Or install open life and upload your sculpties there ?

http://www.openlifegrid.com/Downloads/tabid/67/Default.aspx

It is fun to have your own island for free. Although you won't see much traffic in it ;-) But i have heared, that in principle it should be possible to set up your own island and open it to the web for others...

I am not aware of any other tools.

3DLite is a small application.
It is my work in progress viewer for Sculpties.
Oblongs allowed: 8x128 and 16x64 (and their double size)

3DLite uses only the best LOD and uncompressed TGA,
textures TGA and BMP, resized 1*, 1/2, 1/4, 2*, 4*

The download is here

Have you considered using the Emerald viewer? It has the facility for temporary upload to the Main Grid for free.
Even if you use none of the other bells and whistles incorporated into this 3rd party viewer, the facility to upload and see what your work looks like in SL without charge alone makes it invaluable to me. No more logging out and in between the Main and Preview Grids.

The other alternative is to set up your own stand-alone sim using one of the free available bundles - I use OpenSim - and there you can do long term builds/tests withour any disturbance or concerns about sandbox return times.

Sculpt Studio has a very accurate Java-based option for previewing sculpties online that really does reflect what the sculpt map will look like in-world. You can change the mesh texture according to your needs and even tweak the sculpt map live before downloading it.

Of course you need to use SS to begin with.
